Do any of you have experience giving a monologue for a class that deals in acting fundamentals? I have to give one for mid-term exams, and I have never done acting before. It has to be a minute to two minutes in length, average of 1.5 min. It has to be speaking to someone or more than one person. Cannot be to self or to God. Can be from movie, monologue book, or certain play...but cannot be anyone over 40 years old...and no ancient greek tragedies or Shakespere. The teacher is pretty easy-going and she herself is an acting student at UNCG.

What do I need to do to make the grade?

What type of speach are you looking for?

It has to be less than 40 years old (assuming you are not composing one from scratch)? Presidential speaches work. How about Ronnie to Gorbie "Mr. Gorbechev .... tear down this wall!!"

The key to this exercise is speaking in front of an audiance, that's all. I'm sure you will get a decent grade as long as you presentation is strong reguardless what the content is. Good Luck.

I had to do a monologue (actually, a monodrama) for a Toastmasters speech. I chose Michael Douglas' "Greed is Good" speech from Wall Street. It should fit your time frame.

For another speech from that manual, I used Lou Gherig's "Luckiest Man Alive" speech -- his goodbye to baseball as he retired because of the effects of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as ALS or Lou Gherig's disease.

Good luck!

I'd take something from Laramie Project...they're deep and some are to multiple people...recommend Dennis Shepards. It's solid

Edit: Oops...looks like you already have one

I am not getting graded on the quality of the presentation, as much as you guys have. I think I found one from the movie, the Princess Bride in that website Mouse gave. It is where they are dualing at the table with poison, and Wesley is to choose a wine.
