Which do you prefer for a fighter/mage multiclassed character?
There seem to be advantages to both, IMHO. For instance, with two handed weapons, you can switch from the coolest sword or halberd to the Staff of the Magi to a bow if need be! But with dual weilding, you can get some great weapon combos, like using the Equalizer, Crom Faeyr or Defender of Easthaven in the offhand, along with some great axes throughout the entire series, the Flail of Ages, or Celestial Fury in the main hand! Depends. If you're soloing, do two-handed. There's no reason for a fighter/mage PC to be hogging up two good weapons instead of one.

What would make you think Illumina would be sarcastic?

For once, I'm not being sarcastic. If you're in a party, why would you want a character taking up CF and FoA? Doesn't make sense, especially considering that you should be hurling spells anyway. Also, I was badly sleep-deprived when I wrote that, so reverse it. I meant that if you were in a party, you should do two-handed.

Solo, I would still go for dual-wield. You want to splatter them quickly, unless you want more AC, in which shields are nice. I never use two-handed weapons for some reason.

dual wield if your solo, some weapons have nice equped effects, theres a sword you can get very early in the game that grants free action, so you don't suffer from hold spells, it can also haste you for a few seconds each day.
You can get some really good effects just from your weapons if you choose wisely, to the point you can ignore certain spells or items. Take the ring of free action, with a weapon granting the same effect you've gained a ring slot. Loads of good effects on weapons.

Whenever I do a fighter/mage, I go for Dual weilding. Like Q'alooaith said, alot of items have good bonuses. Like maybe you could dual weild Argunvendul (sp?) and Belm for a strength of 22 and an extra attack. Thats a high strength and *two* extra attacks.
When soloing, dual weilding is the way to go. |
