*notices that the beer is getting the better of people after the barbie and produces a cricket bat and tennis ball*

"Backyard cricket anyone? Downunda, you can keep wicket. I noticed your good with your hands!"

*proceeds to the furtherest corner of the backyard and puts the stumps in the ground*

"Who wants to bat first?"

Notes on the "concept" of Backyard Cricket.

I say concept, because there are nearly always local rules in any backlyard game that don't always apply in someone elses backyard. It nearly always depends on the size of the backyard, or if indeed it is played in a backyard at all. Often a game is played on the road and involves many of the neighbours. Some local rules often include "6 and out" if you knock the ball over the fence into the next door neighbours yard.

In this particular game I reserve the right to make up the rules as we go along.

"Batter up!"
