no, unfortunately. I was really bummed when i discovered this. The best a ranger can do is place a weapon in one hand and NOT use a shield. That way, the ranger gets an extra attack per round (pretty cheesey actually, for the 1st level ranger who's specialized)

Yeah, I was a bit miffed about that too. I always thought the main point of rangers (or one of the main points!!) was to dual wield.

it anoys me beyond almost anything GRRRR, I always dual wield...except with dwarves so I use a dwarven fighter and a human fighter who is sposed to represent a barbarien instead of my usual dual wielding drow fighter Ryltar Freth 2nd son of House Freth, 2nd house of Ched'Nesad.

(I actualy fence with 2 foils one in each hand hehehe ...I'm almost unbeatable )

As far as I was concerned the main points of rangers was having two hit dice at first level and adding their level to their damage against all giants and goblinoids (1st Ed) OR dual wielding in light armour (2nd Ed). However, the main point of rangers should be getting on well with animals (wich is why they only got 8 siders for hit points in 1st Ed) and knowing how to survive in natural surroundings. However, since the BG series doesn't use a food system I reckomend that Rangers should have been able to react to fatigue more slowly, although magical fatigue (from haste, etc) would have a similarly slow effect so I can see why they didn't implement it, even if various classes gain different benfits from strength spells etc. The same excuse could be denied them for the lack of bonuses to elemental saves as a druid. Any speed increase or other modifier (advanced specialisation with bows etc) could be equally maligned so I shall not continue here. They even turned the Paladinic protection from evil into a spell innate (unlimited duration and self only in IWD)because it was probably hard to implement it properly. I can even believe that TSR might have felt pressured into doing away with it because some younger players might just fail to remember that it was there (and for reasons of rule balancing in the mess that is 3rd Ed).

Fencing with two FOILS is silly and pointless. (well, they're pointy i guess).
Fencing with two SABRES or EPPEES, now that's action.
