I just finished chapter two. I haven't gone to the Shadow Thieves yet, but I'm trying to do this quest for the temple that sends me out to the slums at night to find a thief named Travin. There are some Vampires there that are pissed off because I joined the Shadow thieves or whatever and they kill me. I really need help please.

Yikes. Believe it or not, those Vampires are part of one of Athkatla's many 'random' encounters that can appear at any time. There are a number of things you COULD do...

1 - Reload, leave the Slums, and come back on a different night. Hopefully the Vamps will not appear then.

2 - Fight them anyway. Now for a few useful anti-Vampire tactics:

If you know they're there, prepare. Any items or spells you might have that can prevent Charms are useful on a lead character, preventing the Vampires' ability to control other members of your party from working. Discovering the Vamps' location with a sneaking thief might be a good idea - or perhaps donning an invisibility spell, if you have one. Have you been able to pay off the Cowled Wizards to allow you to use spells in the city yet?
Bear in mind only weapons and ammo of +1 or better enchantment can hurt Vampires.
If you've only just fininshed Chapter 2, it is unlikely a Cleric in your party will have sufficient power to Turn Undead and win the game on his/her own. Try not to bother with it against Vampires until you reach later levels.
Try to comcentrate the bulk of your attacks against one Vampire, to try and negate the regenerative powers of said vamps. If you have a character with a low AC, the option is there to use him/her as a human shield to keep the other Vamps occupied. Anything - a sword that adds extra attacks, haste - that can increase the potential damage you can do to these creatures is a plus point.
Low-power spells are almost useless against Vampires; sleep, charm and hold spells simply fail to affect them, and ice or electrical spells do half damage. Try using your mages to cast spells such as haste, invisibility, and any other spells that boost the efforts of your party - or, if all else fails, have the mages join the fray. Maybe they'll get a lucky critical hit.
Summoning some creatures to range ahead of you before the confrontation isn't such a bad idea. Use them to distract the Vampires while you either attack with them or pepper them with magic arrows.
If you have access to the Sunfire spell, either through having a Cleric with it or through owning the sword Daystar +2, it is a very, very potent weapon against living dead such as these. Do not hesitate to use it, although it's a good idea to keep the rest of the party back from the caster and, therefore, the spell's area of effect. Perhaps a charcter casting Sunfire could then retreat with the aid of haste or Boots of Speed?
The Vampire's level drain will suck experience and levels from a character in a flash unless they are protected by Negative Plane Protection; either the spell, or a magic item that gives the ability. A magic-user can cast Restoration spells to replace levels and exp, but this spell takes a while to cast and makes the mage suffer fatigue, so it's unwise to use it more than twice in any given confrontation. The only item that protects from level drain that is readily available to you is the Amulet of Power, given to you by... SPOILER...

The lord of the Shadow Thieves when you join him. Time to consider joining them before going any further?

Anyway, bear these things in mind and, with any luck, you'll walk all over the damn creatures when you next fight.

Before you get to the location the vampires are hanging around at get your cleric to cast negative plane protection on your two best fighters. That will stop level drain. Then put them up against the vampires one on one while everyone else fires bows/slings/offensive damage causing spells at the vamps.

Of course you'll need +2 arrows or bullets but you can get them from a range of places and should already have a few if you are on part three.

Alternatively and far less bother buy a scroll of pro vs undead and use it on one character and have him walk round to see Travin.

Fighting Vampires is like fighting anything else-hit them as hard and as fast as you can and plan your attack don't just wander in blindly. If you do you'll end up with a load of very dead (or low level) characters.
