Pretty funny story. The man's one year old Toshiba flat screen started emiting an SOS signal that is understood internationally, and picked up by a satellite that looks for this signal all over the world. The police came in full force, expeting it to be a false alarm from a falty boat equipment which has happened before in other places, but when the team arrived, they discovered that the 20 year old guy had a television capable of creating the signal.

They told him that turning on the tv again would result in a hefty 10,000 fine for knowingly setting off a false alarm. Toshiba has offered to replace the bad tv.

I wonder if I can use my television to send an SOS next time I lose the remote?

Hmm, the SOS could be useful for this situation (and trust me it happsn often):
Me = Anyone seen the remote?
Party B = Nope
Me = Are you sure?
B = Yep.
So I spend half an hour tearing the house apart (just so I dont have to get up and change the channel manually), I literally tear the room apart and eventually find the remote... under the arse of party B.

So if the SOS was sent when the tv is first turned on they might get here in time to stop me from beating someone to death with the remote control.
