I've got many lines for living, like quotes from people or things like the Bible that dictate how I live my life or my philosophies or beliefs..
But if there's one quote that really sums up how I feel and why I do things, its from "the Beach" (read the book, seen the movie)..
Goes something like..
"I still search for paradise. But now I know that its not a place you can search for. Its how you feel for a moment in your life, and when you find that moment, it lasts forever"

I sorta believe that everyone's looking for something, that the ultimate desire for paradise is what drives every human being, whether they know it or not. Everyone's paradise is different, but its what we all search for.

For those who have not read the book, go do so! Its by Alex Garland about a backpacker in Thailand, searching for that elusive perfect place. He finds such a place, a secret beach, with a whole colony of like-minded travellers also there, but in the end he realises that every place, even the most sacred, can be a dream turned nightmare. At the end of the book/movie, after his experience with the Beach, he realises that its not about where he is, but how he feels, and thats what remains in his heart the most.

Oh sorry for the rant..I suddenly realise I might have gone OT..

Tsk tsk Silver Cheetah. Most uncalled for... Time for Sharp to hit you all with the serious stick.

The quote in my sig is from a longer passage by Nelson Mandela which I'm not about to type up as it's rather lengthy. However, I do believe it has more then a ring of truth to it.

As for something that defines my essense, I'd refer you to this:

Quote:

‘If each, I told myself, could be but housed in separate identities, life would be relieved of all that was unbearable; the unjust might go his way, delivered from the aspirations and remorse of his more upright twin; and the just could walk steadfastly and securely on his upward path, doing the good things in which he found his pleasure, and no longer exposed to disgrace and penitence by the hands of this extraneous evil. It was the curse of mankind that these incongruous faggots were thus bound together – that in the agonised womb of consciousness these polar twins should be continually struggling.’

Robert Louis Stevenson (1886)

------------------

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure."

But it's by means of the struggle that we grow, Sharpedge. Yes/No?

And the wild regrets and the bloody sweats
None knew so well as I
For he who lives more lives than one,
More deaths than one must die.

(heh...yes I am feeling down today...that wouldn't normally be the quote I associate with me)

Very good quote Fljotsdale...made my stomach feel all funny...I love that poem!
Also love Mouse's T.S. Eliot quote which he has in his sig on Mithril Hall:
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or you shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

But to actually find a quote I live by or that sums me up in some way...I'd have to think about it much longer.

Is a part of a song OK? In that case I'd choose: "Do you have the time, to listen to me whine, about nothing and everything all at once?"
I chose that one, cos the title of the song ( Basket Case) refers to me totally.. Sometimes I'm a complete nutball, and can be very irritating, talking about nonsense non-stop.. So that's the reason for that one.
No songs allowed? Then I'll chose: "Losing isn't bad, as long as you win"
I don't know where it comes from, but I'm pretty much a sports freak, and I don't like losing!!

Oh goody...now you hear it from someone else

BTW Link of course a song would be ok! If that's what you associate with yourself the most then who are we to say you aren't allowed to? Very apt choice, BTW...
