The join-and-cancel guild quest bug is as follows:

Pay your money for a class advancement quest (say, Paladin from Cleric).

Go to the warrior guild. As a paladin candidate, you can now join the warrior guild.

Go into the guild and cancel the paladin quest.

Presto! Access to the warrior guild without being a warrior class!

And Desdicado, you can still do the thieves guild quest after you've cleared out the Serpent Temple. Set your spawn rate to high and wander around. Random priests will appear, and you'll be able to get coins.

Try stealing the coins instead of killing to see if they drop. Stealing gets you multiple chances to get a coin.

Are you speaking about the Pawn Shop quest? If you are, then you are mistaken. You can gain the coins even if you have already cleared the Snake Temple. The snake worshippers will be spawned randomly whenever you enter the temple so that you can collect the coins for the Pawn Shop.
Another thing is a bit ridiculous as far as the temple is concerned: You have killed their god. How do the worshippers react? Nohow! No problems seemingly!

Bung - How do you cancel a quest? You mean you don't have to pay to get into a guild then?

Wutang,

You do have to pay to join the guild, but once you're in there, go to the role change area and click on the class you're currently trying to become. You'll be asked if you want to cancel the role quest. Say yes, and you're no longer trying to advance.

You lose the gold you originally paid for the quest, and have to repay it when you want to convert later, but there's no later harm in the game from this action.

yups, especially if u know the "get-lotsa-gold-from-unwanted-characters" trick (or should i say bug ?)
stealing gets u multiple coins?! i didnt know that.......now at least i dun haf to run around and wait for priests to respawn. but isnt it irritating that sometimes priests dun respawn, and in its place some useless cobras and spiders appear, and they cant carry ANYTHING!!! I don't think so. If I understand well, you can steal only those items the moster has in its inventory. It you kill that monster, the inventory is dropped on the ground so that you get the same items as if you tried to seal them.
Perhaps, the inventory is reset somehow by something somewhere. I don't know. When I experienced with the Pickpocket skill, I never got more by pickpocketing than by killing.

Actually what can be pickpocketed from other characters differs from what one gets from killing them. Quest items are always dropped by characters when killed, but as to other items it seems that they are only dropped from time to time. If one pickpockets a longtooth for its hide one is pretty sure to get it. The same goes for crabs, bark horrors, and mostly everything else. But if one kills them it is pretty random whether they drop all things in their inventory or not.
