You may believe these practices to be evil but will you accept that they should be allowed to carry out their beliefs in their own country? I accept that you have the right to execute criminals in the USA , why won't you extend the same rights to muslim states.

I take it you agree with the rest of the post though?

Russia, Turkey and Albania retain the death penalty for crimes committed in exceptional circumstances. Turkey will have to abolish before being admitted to the EU. The UK abolished totally in 1999 although the last execution was in 1964.

Donut: Yes basicly I agree with your post (surprise hehehe) Muslims in our country should be free as free as any citizen. But must also abide by our laws.

The old testement and the Quran are some bloody books.

As to wether they should be able to forcibly disfigure females and subjugate children and women and or sexually abuse them in their own country....sticky problem.

The way I see it, if we accept their actions then we are decryed as no better than barbarians by allowing such injustices to occur. On the other hand, if we step in and try to correct those injustices, then you are accused of being a global dictatorial power.

From my perspective, it looks like you loose no matter which side you take...so why not go for the gusto and take action...since you are going to be condemned either way?

The last I heard Turkey had been rejected by the EU. The article was a bit hazy on the reasoning, but there was speculation that it was turned down due to its Muslim population.

Wish I could remember where I saw the article

Not rejected - they will be able to start talks on joining the EU in 2005.

The 'official' reasons to delay are problem with human rights (independent courts and protection of minorities) and Turkey's pitiful economy.

the unofficial ones are (as you pointed out) that it is a muslim country and doubts on the new government.

--------------

Denmark still have thedeath-penalty - although only for High Treason during war. ( Last carried out after WW2.) I believe most European contries have similar punishment in such 'extreme' circumstances.

To be perfectly honest I have no idea why it was posted or what point was being made. Is it that there are some bad muslims in the world or is it that their customs and laws are different to ours? Because I more or less already knew that.

I don't judge civilisations with different laws - did you know that in some western countries they still have the death penalty!!!
Did you know, that what is even more horrifying that some countries allow Homicidal maniacs to live? And some countries even allow terrorists to live free and safe to plot the deaths of innocent children and civilians?

A swift and clean execution is far far from a cruel or inhumane punishment and does benefit society as a whole.

EDIT:
Err which civilization is being judged? A religion does not a civilization define.
Is this where you're talking about ?
