I caught some of it earlier this morning. Awesome that they were able to rescue the miners. I can't imagine what it would be like to be enclosed like that for so long.

Nor I. They seem naturally disoriented and overwhelmed at first and of course they have to wear shades when they emerge as their eyes adjust to the daylight. The more recent weeks have, of course, been alot easier for as opposed to the "early days" of being stuck in darkness and isolation with no contact from the outside at all. But it's just so cool to see them reunited with their families when they come out.

Watching it all day! It's simply amazing they are getting out.. I hope they write books on their experience down there.. would be interesting to read. 70 days in a small cavern with 33 people... crazy!

Watching it on the CNN Internet feed---doesn't have the dumb TV host interrupting every 3 seconds like they do...

Caught the tail end as the last person made it to the surface.. amazing

Also saw the video of the first one to arrive, and noted how the president of Chile was there to greet and hug him when he made it to the surface. I personally would have a lot more respect for el presidente if he were also there for the last person... but that's politics for you.

And if he *were* there for the last person (as well as those in between), my respect is immense.

But I'm extremely glad that they all managed to make it out safely.

Working in Mining myself I can only begin to imagine what these guys went through, amazing scene, and i agree with bung, it was quite inspirational to see the president there.

Also good to note that this is the longest (as far as I know) any miner/s has been trapped underground, and lived.

The last I saw him, he had put on a jacket with a green design on the left breast pocket and was wearing a white hard hat.

Quote:
San Jose (Chile), Oct 14 (IANS) The last of the 33 trapped Chilean miners, 54-year-old Luis Urzua, the shift foreman, was rescued Wednesday after having stayed 700 metres underground for more than two months.

The atmosphere at the scene exploded when Urzua walked out of the capsule. Waves of horns, sirens and cheers sound for long.

Urzua was among the 33 miners who have been trapped in the San Jose copper mine that collapsed Aug 5. All of them were elevated one-by-one in a capsule through a narrowly bored hole.

President Sebastian Pinera bear-hugged the foreman in a high spirit, and invited him to stand beside him to join the hundreds of others at the scene to sing the national anthem, Xinhua reported.
Is it possible you saw the extraction of the two EMTs who went below?
