A 37-year old man was sentenced to twelve years in prison today for the murder of the man who raped his children. Opinions?

Killing your children's rapist should be a get out of jail free card.

In the heat of the moment, I'm not sure what I would do, but the law is the law, and murder is still murder.

I'm between the first two answers. I wouldn't call it an outrage, and I'd likely do the same thing myself, but to say I disagree with his actions... I don't know. I think the sentence should be symbolic.

As a dad, my job is to help my kids grow up and protect them along the way. Something like this... perhaps part of my response would be to my own failure to protect.

"He won't do that again..."

The roughest part... his kids going through the next 12 years with just visiting hours...

I wouldn't get 12 years, but it would have taken me several days to kill him, and the whole time, I'd be aware that when I was done, the police were going to get me, I'd turn myself in. I would want to make sure that he suffered though, and suffered a lot before I finished him.

It's a tough call, without knowing details. Like, was it sort of a heat of the moment kind of deal? Was he kept alive and tortured?

It's a shame either way... I certainly don't want to condone murder, even though I do believe it's justifiable in some cases, like this one. I guess it's good that the sentence is relatively lenient, all things considered.
