I tried to scan with Trendmicro, just to see whether it finds something that my on computer antivirus does not find, but when I go there it asks me for location, I tell it and then it says that I need to download something and install it, since I am using Netscape and not IE. Well I use Firefox and I downloaded what it said, but when I tried installing it, it told me it could not find Netscape, which is perfectly right as I don't have Netscape. So my question is whether I can make the online scan work with Firefox or whether I have to go back to IE?

Also on the top of the page after I clicked location, but before I got redirected to the Netscape-ish page Firefox told me it needed additional plugins. I clicked on install plugins. It told me the plugin was unknown and had to be installed manually, but when I tried to do so, it took me to an empty page.

You need ActiveX for that. Meaning, you need IE or Netscape which both have it (which is a bad idea). You're honestly better off not using these things, because they present an obvious security problem in their very function (even if these particular things are overt about it, others don't have to be): they have access to files on your harddrive from a remote system. Use a real anti-virus, you'll be better off for it.

As I posted I do use a real antivirus, I just wanted to see whether Trendmicro found anything extra.

If you have that little trust in your anti-virus, you might consider running two on your system. This is what I meant by using a real anti-virus: using a secondary real one instead of housecall. If the fact that housecall and kin have read access (and, often, write access to fix the problems) to your entire harddrive without any permission other than in the applet itself doesn't raise hairs on your neck, I don't know what will.

It might be worth noting that virus definition files can apparently be picked up as viruses. For this reason, you should be wary of false positives. And unless you have a super computer, you shouldn't run them at once, or have both autoprotects running at once. But honestly, one is usually enough, and you shouldn't run any online ones unless you need to (for example, if your real one has been incapacitated).

I use Avast! (wich is free and great) and AVG. I use them both and they have saved my a$$ more twice already I think. I also use Spybot - Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware SE Personal. I also use Firefox. So I am pretty safe. I really recommend Avast!.
