Crashing and Freezing - It's p****** me off

My game keep either freezing or crashing

When it craches I get one of the following two messages (translated):

"Nwnmain has caused an error in [either:] [or] Nwnmain.exe
Nwnmain closes
If the problem pesists - try to reboot the computer"

I have tried rebooting
I have also - udgraded my drives, installed the lastest patch, uninstalled and reinstalled the game

My PC lives up to the recomended specifications.

And after reading Dieter L's thread - I have also checked the resolution of my screen and the game - they match.

Any ideas anyone?

Have you seen the link I supplied himwith from BIOWARE forums, about crashes? My system crashes sa well, but I cannot find a good reason to explain it yet. It seems that if you take five people with crashing problems, none of the five are related problems. I pray for a patch, or some other-worldly intervention to help us all!

I have the freezing problem in SOU just after you are turned to stone, the cutscence with the lizardmen freezes but you can get past that by Esc, then when I make it to the next dungeon it is as slow as molasses even with grapics setting as low as possible, then it freezes. If I can make it out of the first two rooms it starts being fine again. For this I am thinking bug there as it happens nowere else. This is my second time through here and this time I said it is on to HotU because I don't have the patience to slog through those first two rooms to get it to work. Although besides the sloggy start it is one of my favorite levels.

When do the crashes happen? during gameplay? after some time or soon as you enter?

I also had the game crash for me randomly after some time of playing. I heard it could be caused after installing windows SP2. I had some other windows fixes installed. After uninstalling them the crashes stop.

Hey, I had the exact same problem. I'm running a 2gHz Celeron with a 9250 Powercolor (ATI-type) AGP card. After searching the Bioware forums for a bit I found a link containing a hotfix for the problem. All the reports I've seen indicate that it does the trick.

Welcome to Ironworks Eric, and to the SoU crashers, what Eric said, and it is posted elsewhere here about the Hotfix. I have also heard that the xp sp2 patches do cause crashes in NWN's, but since I don't even look at the released campaigns, I'm waiting for the 1.66 *?* patch, which will hopefully resolve all the issues. If I knew how, I'd underline, and italics the hopefully.
