First problem;
120 GB harddrive has to be set to limit to 32 GB because it won't detect otherwise - how can this be fixed?
Celeron 500MHz Processor
Award Modular BIOS Version 4.51PG
Other details will be posted on request... however, Hivetyrant can't login at home.

Which is the other problem: he tries to login, but when he clicks 'login', it returns a 'Page Cannot Be Displayed' error after a long wait.

Get newer windows. Windows 95 support up to 10 gig, 98 1st ed is limited to 20(not sure) etc...
The 'Page Canot Be Displayed' message happens to me sometimes, but nothing that often.
Say Hi to him, will ya

Woo Hoo, I finally can log in! And only after about 50 tries!

In reply, Im running Windows Xp Professional, but its not Windows that is causing the problem, because it does not detect as a device when the computer boots. And ive made sure, that when it is set as master, that no other devices are set as master, I do have a little experiance at setting up devices, so I know a few things about putting computers together so i dont think big words will matter, anyway, ive had suggestions of getting programs to "mask" the actual space of the drive, would this work? and how? Because unless it was a program that started when the computer does, how would it work?

Anyway thanks in advance, I can answer questions now.
And hi Bozos of Bones.

This session, or all up?

As I understand it (which, admittantly, isn't actually all that well), it hooks closely into the BIOS, and will start before the POST.

[/QUOTE]before post? how is that possible unless it flashes the bios? unless it does actually flash the bios...
Anyway untill i get my new computer running this old on won't even support a 36 gig hdd, consider yourself lucky.

EDIT: Yay! 400 posts!... and all of it spam...

Welcome back then, Hivetyrant! Hope you can fix that computer problem. Would partitioning the hd make any difference do you think? I can't imagine why XP wouldn't recognize the whole thing, though.

Partitioning would be my suggestion. create a boot disk, make sure fdisk is on it, and break the disk into several smaller chunks; at this point, 4@30GB would be good, if you can access up to 32GB.

Make sure you back up any important stuff ahead of time, because it probably won't be available after you adjust the sizes. I'm not promising, I just don't remember for certain.

The problem with all these solutions are, that when detecting devices (master, slave) it wont detect the harddrive, it comes up as "none" instead of "the name of the hard drive" so using fdisk wont help if the computer cant see teh harddrive.

If your BIOS can't handle a >32Gb HDD, you wont be able to detect it. You may be able to flash the BIOS to a version which will support your drive, check with the mobo manufacturers website.

Ditto andrewas,

The 32GB limit was a product of early motherboard and BIOS, when 32GB was more than anybody could ever use.
