I didn't said that Valygar was better, but if you want to use a katana, he is better than Minsc.

Minsc might not be the best fighter in the game but he's funny. he provides comic relief in some really boring scenarios. Like try using him when trying to convince that guy from Brynawaly (sp) that your insane. Make Minsc talk to him and he says some really funny thing.

I have some sort of weird attachment to him i can't ever kick him and Boo out of my party.

Dafan, in the end it comes probably down to personal preferences, to what you feel most comfortable with and serves your party best. Yours, for instance, seems to be a little less "heavy" with spellcasters than mine.
