Bumping yet again. I never want to see this thread on page 2, and yet somehow it's always there.

A product of my extreme boredom during an extra-boring seminar. Instead of being rude and sleeping, I decided to pretend I was aptly listening and taking down notes, when I was actually writing this:

MY SHOELACES AND MORE

My shoelaces are pretty.
They are white.
Slowly turning gray.
Of dirt.
That probably came from the school gym.
Which they painted especially for graduation.
To show the parents why they pay the tuition.
To give the school a paint job it badly needs.
While the paint fumes intoxicate the little students.
Making them asthmatic.
Adding them to all the statistics.
Which is a very annoying subject to learn.
So filled with numbers.
Which I hate.
Coz when you start to learn the numbers,
You go on to shapes.
And geometry.
And trigonometry.
Which is but a foreign word when you’re in kindergarten.
Where everything was fun.
Problem-free.
You just needed to know your letters and colors.
My favorite color is blue.
I hate pink.
I used to love it.
But I got sick of it when they painted my room pink.
I miss that room.
I grew up in that room.
With the stickers on my door.
And I pulled on the wallpaper as I ran along the wall.
Making the wall white.
White like my rubber shoes.
Like my shoelaces.
My pretty shoelaces.

It's not supposed to have a deeper meaning, or any meaning at that, so don't bother trying to figure it out. Just humor me.

Thoughts

The winds caresses
my oily face
in this rainy day
As I think of you
Lovely thoughts of you,
You, you. You are
The sheath
that covers
me.
Protects me
from the sun
Provides me with
The warmth
All the warmth I will ever need
and more
I love you

Gridlock: "Journey to the Unknown" is a story of ants in the kitchen. One strays from the norm and is lost as a hand comes down and crushes him. I loved it!

ALL OF YOU: Great work!!! I join the other respondents in congratulating you on your excellent submissions.

I must say I am quite taken aback with the richness and sheer breadth of talent on show here. I am certain that this material could be published if the author wished. Since I am new to the forum and have little idea of what has gone before, I hope you do not find it presumptuous of me to add a poem of my own to this thread. I look forward to seing more of all your work.

Probably a little long, but here goes...

Of longing tears…

There was a couple on the stage that night,
The stage in the bar, in the city of dreams,
And the city of death and of blood,
The man sits with a guitar on his knee,
The woman stands, a violin in her hands

“You never played a violin before,” he says
“I know,” she smiles,
And they play.

The man’s fingers tease a song from the air,
The woman sings.
Passion flows through the strings.

The Harmony that’s here is a part of,
Two souls and love so dear.
But the tune is sad and the bar is as night,
And the woman’s voice rings far out of sight.

He knows that he will hear it forever,
She knows there’s time yet there’s none.

“A good job it is night,” she says,
In a break in the song.
“I know,” he says.
So the tune was played and the song was sung.

The man listens to her voice and thinks,
Of times gone by.
The mournful tune he plays is a sign,
And a reason why.

At first there is light, but joining him soon,
The song takes the tone of her fate,
And his doom.
But the tune still flows through the bar.
Clear, full of pain, and forever.

“And why is it there is not all sadness here?”
he asks.
She knows.
He knows.
But they cannot answer

The answer lies in the song,
The answer is the song.

Wordless notes shaped by her,
Loved by pangs of tone born of him,
Embraced in the wings of her violin,
So flown to the heights of their passion,
And crushed in a blanket of sin.
