Xaver

In spite of the fact that the area might prove more difficult for Pandaros' tracking skills, Xaver felt glad they were out of the forest. He felt more at ease in the new surroundings - in spite of the mountains being different than the ones back home - and his spirits rose. The fresh air was a welcome refreshment after hours spent in the humid forest.

When the cave was spotted, Xaver thought for a moment on what to do next. He was not feeling yet too tired, but it was getting dark soon, and he wasn't sure how his companion was feeling. He took a look at their surroundings then turned to Pandaros.

"How are you feeling now? Do you want us to continue or should we wait till morning? We could return to the camp we saw and rest there. Come to think of it, I could go to the cave and do a bit of scouting... I may not be able to move silently, but I can see well in the dark. Besides, I was raised in the mountains, and in my youth spent a lot of time in the caves. I'll go take a look at the situation inside and then come back to the camp...

Or if you prefer, we could both go in now... I'm happy either way..."

As Gillian inspected the door and then waited for the lengthy exchange between Kuankreid and his familiar the door disappeared and the floor tiles once again resumed their checkered pattern, although now the letters were in different places on the floor.

Here is the current floor plan.

OOC Hints. "Nordlar" is a local brew you may have heard of, not popular outside of the town because of it's very bitter taste and low alcohol content, but it's alcohol, and it's cheap (although some say squeezings from the rag that is used to clean the bar would be tastier), you can also make out "quester" and "poor fool" "Soap nie" "Rot gut" "J-bronie"(if you watched american pro-wrestling about 5-8 years ago it would make sense) "Raid lair" as well as many other words and phrases in the floor tiles (green is where the door Gillian was at was located, blue is the entrance to the shack)

Sever

Mmm, they've bagged some dinner, was Sever's immediate reaction to the sight of blood stains along the trail. Only later did it occur to him that his stomach was probably doing his thinking for him. It was getting late in the afternoon and, try as he may, the thought of preserved apples and travel rations wasn't hitting any G-spots.

Though both (of what he believed to be) Pandaros and Xaver's tracks continued on from the scene of the struggle, Sever couldn't be sure that it was Dinner's blood that he had come across. Though he fervently hoped that it was. It was going to be hard enough to talk his way back into the group without doing so on an empty stomach...

Pandaros

"Let's go check out that cave. After all this hiking we can't stop if its lair is right in front of us. If its nothing, we can come back here and rest for the night."

Pandaros nocked an arrow in his bow and gestured for Xaver to lead.

"Since you've got the cave experience and darkvision, you can lead the way. I'll cover you in case anything dangerous appears."

The scout will follow Xaver's lead, keeping alert to any sign of danger.

For Pandaros and Xaver:

The cave proved treacherous to reach easily. With Pandaros carrying his bow in a readied posture, climbing the hills was very difficult. The rocks that made up the grounding were loose, and sliding was frequent. Several times did he nearly loose his footing, but was saved by his high dex score more than once. (lucky dice rolls).

Xaver was not as quick on his feet, but a dwarf knows how to handle himself on terrain such as this, and was more at home in this element. Although movement was not as quick, his path was secure, and was only slowed down by Pandaros who tried to stay afoot while carrying his bow.

In 20 minutes, they were coming up on the cave entrance but by this time dusk had arrived and their visual was already cut in half by the low light. They were close enough to the cave to smell a horrible stench from within. If they were at all hungry after all this time, they had to have lost their appetite now.

They could hear nothing, nor see anything that would alert them to danger. There were no more footprints to locate due to the entire terrain being made of sliding rocks and boulders. This terrain far up into the hills beyond the cave and into the misty higher elevations.

For Sever
(Finding food and G-spots...a typical man's journey)

Sever was quick on his feet, being able to easily follow the recent prints that his fellow companions had left him. They veered North and West, and Sever was anxious to come to the end of this man hunt. Within the hour, he was at the rocky slopes that led upward at a gradual pace, gradually becoming more steep as it got higher. As it was, Sever was not carrying any weapons to get in the way of his hands helping him climb the terrain and his dexterity score was the best of the three on this mountain. It was getting dark quickly up here, but in the distance he thought he could barely make out two forms nearing a cave. It would take him at least 15 minutes to reach them, but at least he had spotted them, and knew where they were apparently intending to go.

Xaver

"Allright, I'm moving in. Follow me."

Xaver made sure his axe was easily within reach and moved inside. Trying his best to ignore the stench, he moved a few steps in and looked around, adjusting his eyes to the dim light inside.

"Eww. I wonder what that smell is," he turned back and wispered to Pandaros, then once again started moving (as noiselessly as he could) deeper inside the cave.

Pandaros

The scout wrinkled his nose at the stench as they approached. His nerves were already on edge from his numerous close calls on the slope and the smell only increased his anxiety. He paused and started to take a deep breath to calm himself, his mind halting the involuntary action as the taste of rot touched his tongue.

He stifled a cough as Xaver indicated he was going in the cave.

"I'm at your back," Pandaros answered.

He kept his eyes focused on the depths of the cave, hoping his eyes would adjust to the dark before anything dangerous presented itself. The scout kept a couple of paces in between himself and the dwarf, allowing for a wide angle of fire to either side, or even above, his companion.

For Pandaros and Xaver:

The dwarf led the way and the human stayed far enough in the back as to try to use his bow in the event of an attack, but the lighting got worse as they went further into the cave. It was not pitch black, but the light was low enough to cause a human some concern.

Up ahead, there was a pile of ripped-apart bones of various types. Mostly from animals, including some domesticated ones such as cows. This could point to the fact that they indeed were in the cavernous home of the giant that had been plaguing Lockesville.

But the animal remains were not what concerned Xaver as he gazed upon the scene and being able to see much better than Pandaros. What got his attention was that of a human, torn apart at the torso, laying amongst the heap of death. He was missing both arms and his head had been bashed in. His armor seemed to be very finely crafted and probably worth a great amount of coin. Or at least it used to. The amount of damage to the armor probably would cost a large sum to get fixed.

She lifts her nose to the breeze and inhales deep. She is inundated by different scents of the forest and wags her tail happily. Looking around, her sharp wolf eyes pick out a grove of oaks, just to her right, and she silently pads in that direction looking once over her shoulder to make sure where Ana and the boys are before disappearing into the oak’s midst.

Seven ancient oaks are growing in roughly a circle, and in the middle of these there is a small flat granite stone. Hopping up on the stone, she lays down enjoying the warmth radiating from the granite as she watches the dappled sunlight that is flitting among the leaves on the trees. A soft warm breeze stirs the branches and they sway in time to some unheard song, first to the left, then up, then to the right. If one were to listen closely, you could almost hear the song playing upon the wind.

She pricks her ears up and reaching with her left front paw, she touches the moonstone set in the bracer around her neck, tapping it three times. A soft blue glow surrounds her and she lays her head upon her front paws closing her eyes. She prays…………….

The breeze finds her black/silver coat and playfully ruffles it as she prays, watching over her and keeping her warm. The stone beneath her, listening to her prayers, begins to hum a soft tune unheard by human ears, but maybe heard by elven ones. It is a sad song, filled with sorrow and remorse, but also with gladness of hearing the prayers to nature so long absent from this spot. The oaks sway in tune to the prayers, occasionally branches swaying just low enough to stroke the fur on her back before reaching back to the sunlit sky, rejoicing in the prayers and the rejuvenation they receive from them.

The soil and earth in this circle also begins a song in tune to her prayers, sounding like a soft rumbling of tiny stones being shifted back and forth, back and forth in a soft tinkling bell-like melody.

The grass takes up the song also, and within a couple of hours the circle of oaks is alive with music only those attuned to nature would hear outright, and those close to nature would hear as a soft rumbling on the wind. . . . .

Vincent Pathfinder

After arriving at there desired location, Vincent set about with two tasks, one to keep an watchful eye on the group, and two, to find a nice piece of yew or ash in which to craft the bow from.
