ska is good, but only if it is followed by the word 'punk'
Oh what rot, kids these days
Have you ever listened to any 60s ska? If you like ska/punk have you ever thought about listening to the music that influenced it? (Prince Buster, The Skatalites, Desmond Dekker, The Pioneers, or how about some Skinhead Reggae such as Symarip?) I don't even use the word ska when I'm talking about 2-tone which was much more ska influenced and true to its roots than ska/punk.

*mutters something about watered down commercialised 3rd wave pap produced by people with no regard for origins or roots of their music and wanders off kicking things*

I've got nothing against ska/punk actually, just prefer 60s Jamaican ska and feeling a bit argumentative (in a friendly way!) today.
What bands do you like? I wouldn't mind having a listen to some of the new stuff, so any recommendations would be welcome.

i mean there is sellout stuff but some bands (like catch 22 or mad caddies) arent 'pop' ing the issue up and deviating too far from their roots.

you gotta like stuff like capdown too...
Thanks Radiant, I'll give those bands you mention a try. I quite like stuff like The Riffs but imo is more punk than ska, but I guess they're old hat now! I still like the old-oldies best tho

I do retro like it's going out of fashion

Skate punk and Linkin Park. I also like Slipknot or Korn at times but normally not more than 15 minutes. But I won't turn off the TV if there's another metal band.
