Until recently I believed that upgrading my heavily propritary Dell Dimension 8200 would be too expensive and much trouble, but I've learned that I can upgrade my P4 2.0 processor 400FSB all the way up to a 3.06 533FSB. Now the 3.06 upgrade would require a special non supported BIOS flash to enable Hyper-threading on my mobo, so I'm skipping that option and going with the 2.8 which doesn't require HT.
I'm getting the new chip for about $180(it would be another $40-50 for the 3.06). I'll think going from 2.0 to 2.8 and 400 to 533FSB will be worth it, but of course I think that or I wouldn't be doing it. What do you think about the difference I'll see? I also have 512MG RDRAM, a GeForce 4400ti, and a SB Live.

I dont think you'll see much difference at all, personally. I went from a 1.8ghz Athlon to a P4 2.8ghz and noticed practically zilch. I'd wait a little while longer before upgrading your processor. Your memory's fine, your video card's fine... I dunno man, if you've got money to burn, there are always poor college kids up in Maine who could use it.

Actually I physically checked the chip on the mobo last night when I got home, and it isn't the enhanced version. It's weird though because everything else indicated that I had the enhanced board, but the chip doesn't lie.
Without the enhanced board, I can only upgrade to the 2.6 w/400FSB which I've heard they make anymore, so that leaves the 2.4 or 2.5 which really wouldn't be that much of a difference, so I'm out of luck. Or maybe I'm in luck...
