No.
Only eleven fighter mages wearing elvin chain are supposed to be able to cast spells. Everyone else is limited to bracers and other items of protection. |

You can wear robes, though, which is neat. According to this century-old AD&D book I'm the proud owner of, elven multiclass fighter-mages are supposed to be able to cast spells while wearing armour. Heh?

Actually, a fighter/mage dual(by necessity human) CAN wear elven chain and cast MU spells... as can a multiclass cleric/mage (My Aerie is wearing elven chain at the moment) However, the Robe of Vecna gives magic resistance, AC 5, and a huge reduction in casting time. Pity you canna buy two of 'em.
