It's a special mode in IWD2 which is significantly harder then the normal mode or even the hard mode of IWD2
in exchange for the harder mode however you get better magical weapons and more XP it's best to finish the game at normal level first, then export your characters and play again in HoF mode

Keep this in mind: HOF is really tough, especially the first time through. The gobbies on the waterfront (that could be a movie title!) have around 100+ hitpoints, which should give you a small idea of what you're in for.
Once you turn on HOF mode, all new games are HOF. Any pre-existing saves are unaffected. If you want to go back to regular modes, you'll have to turn HOF off again. |

HoF mode can be very, very challenging. The monsters have many, many more HP. Some battles have MORE monsters as well.
Also, in HoF mode your spells are unchanged. This may not seem like much, but it is a VERY important fact. A simple 5d6 area effect spell in normal mode is reasonably decent. In HoF, it's a real yawn. The monsters tend to have excellent Fort rolls. Enchantment and Summoning spells tend to be more important. Symbol of Hopelessness ends up being a super-spell. Ditto for Mass Dominate. Your tanks must be very, very careful in melee. Enemy tanks will tend to hit a lot more often and much harder. Be ready to cast a Heal at any time. |
