My main characters an evil monk and he kicks ass. Has anyone else used a monk as their main character. The only disadvantage I see is that they don't have a strong hold. Armour would be nice but they get their own. Also should I bother giving him a sword. His main weapon is his fists so I'm not too sure.

I have but got fed up in the early stages. They don't do much damage, can't wear armour and die alot. But they might get better later, u tell me.

Mine was killing mephits really quickly. And his fist becomes a +3 weapon later on and he can add stuff to it. Did you use the stun hit?. That worked on that first demon thing you kill at the start of the game. His amrour improves every 2 levels. I'm just gonna stick with him.

I haven't played a monk, but I do know they get VERY powerful at level 13 and above. It seems as you haven't read this forum a lot, Warby =), since the monk get De'Arnise castle as his stronghold.

depending on your monks stats, you can equip him with keldorns family armor. Eventually your monks natural ac will get better than the armor, but for most of SoA, you will have great armor class, + the bonus to saving throws and free action. For example, my lvl 11 monk has a -4 armor class with keldorns armor. I'm pretty sure he has no other magical protection, too.
