ClamAV has an excellent reputation - it's a favourite for servers, even.

I heard of AVG, and before making this thread I looked at their website, but I'm not sure where to find their free version. All I see is the 30 day trial...

Now it is time I make an apology to avast. The thing surprised me. Yesterda, I finally had enough free time to run and monitor a full thorough scan of both antivirus programs(the test before was a full C: check and a quick FAT, registry and relevant parts of other drives). AVG took 2 hours, avast almost three. But that is unimportant, what is important is that while AVG found the standard 4 malwares I have, avast found eleven! That is a record for me! I am totally impressed with this little thing. Just so you know.
