Just remember, folks... even though an email about a scam seems to come from a person in authority, that doesn't mean it's true. I remember my elementary school sending home notices about the blue star LSD stickers... an oldie-but-goodie urban legend.

Be aware, but be skeptical.

Sheesh, it is truly disgusting the lengths that some people will go to to defraud others.
Am I misunderstanding LadyZ, was this fraudulent purchase actually made on your uncles card?

That is pretty clever if you ask me.
They can run a credit report and get all the info except the security numbers on your card, then they call and you give them the security numbers.

GeWhen the report is given to anyone BUT you requesting it, only the last 4 or first 4 numbers of ALL accounts are visible, and even when you request it, sometimes that's all they'll show you too. I get my report every 6 months, they don't show all the information on it.

Besides, if they're getting your credit report, then they have your social security #, so you have more to worry about then just a charge to your credit card.

Not to worry, Relic. This is the exact same wording of the email that was forwarded to me by my friend in the Police Department. The lady in question - and the originator of the email - was NOT our beloved Lady Z - at least not to the best of my knowledge, anyway.

Cerek is correct, I figure my uncle was just passing on an e-mail that he received about the scam. I don't know who the person was who got scammed in that mail, but I'm glad that they immediately contacted their credit card company. I hope word of this scam gets out enough to keep these lowdown sneaky thieves from being successful. I'd love to hear about them getting caught, to me they are pathetic losers who need to get a legitimate job and stop trying to take money from hardworking decent people! Grrr!
