are you certain that you won't be able to update again? i mean, we ALL started with just NWN OC originally, updating only it. after SoU was released, you were able to update it as the updates were released. same with HotU.
anyway. what happens when you try to run "nwupdate.exe" directly from your Neverwinter Nights/NWN folder? is the updater version 1.23? the set you bought was one full version. all 3 episodes were that version. installing SoU and HotU won't change your already updated OC, but you will want to consider updating SoU and HotU after they're installed, otherwise you won't get the "no cd" ability for them. V***V

I'd try to run the updater from the folder after install, if the install gives you any problems with updating. I've not come across this before, so I'm not sure what's what.

Thanks again for your answers and your efforts !!!
IŽll try to run the updater from the Windows shell after installing all expansions. As a revered member of the Order of the Knights of the Commandline IŽm a bit abashed that idea didnŽt occur to me before ...

If we could all think of everything, every time, then we would never have any fun.

Or simply go to their website and manually download the patches in executable. They used to have them up for people without the net.

If you can aford it buy "nero" for your DVD - CD copy programs. I have the Pro verson about $500.00 but so far I have been able to copy every disk I have ever bought including so called copy protected Disks and make perfect copies every time. That way I can put the original verison back in the original boxes and cases and save them pretty much untouched except for the one copy I make the day I buy a CD game or DVD and then load the game from the copy.
(And no I don't and won't sell or make copies for anyone sorry!!!!) I have the original NWN disks and the Hordes and Shadows disks. Then I got the gold version and now the platinum collectors edition. I'm able to use any of the Discs in the game with no problem and everything is fully patched using the Game auto patch system. I haven't ever tried to do a manual Patch for NWN after having had the same problem your having back when I manually patched NWN the first time and had to completely remove the game and all componets including a couple saved games. After that I have always used the auto updater and haven't had any trouble using the coppied verison of the game. Now my son has the game and uses the AMD Athlon 64 rather then the pent 4 like myself and he couldnt get the the auto loader to work and has manually loaded all the patches so this may be your problem and Livians sugestion may be your best bet. One thing I would suggest is read all the litature that came with the version of the game you are useing and make sure your not loading an un-needed patch that is already included with the game. My collectors edition has all but the last two patches already included on the disks and if you load an earler verison on top of later verisons it can cause all sorts of trouble and this could be your problem.

well banzai.... i had that problem for two months ago.. and it began with diablo2... installed the game.. and pressed the play button.... got the same error thing you got.. and later on it happened with sacred, baldurs gate2 and last NWN when i reinstalled that game, this thing began to piss me off since i didn`t know how to fix it..
( i`M not a computer pro, but think i know the basics at least..) so i also tried to use D-tools to open the NWN bin file, which a friend of mine created for me from my cd, and it still did not function ... same error message appeared... tried to use a cd-crack, but that was not a problem.. so i reinstalled my windows xp pro to home edition, and then to pro again... ( and i spent alot of time on this ) and then my games finally worked=)=)=)=)=)=)=)=) don`t know what the problem was but the problem is now gone...... could it be a virus ( couldn`t find one by my self) well good luck.. and if someone finds out what it is .. please tell=)
