In HoW you get the murders in Lonely wood is a werewolf. It's pretty obvious its the Ranger. But I can't seem to get anywhere with that. Then, later in the game, at night, after all the trappers are dead, your wondering aroung Lonely wood and get attacked be the Greater werewolf. I kill it. Nobody in town reacts. I try casting remove curse. nothing. I beat it unconscious with my parties bare hands. Nothing, and when I go away and come back, there's the a dead human body on the floor where I left it without even the XP for killing it. And nobody in town reacts.
Now, I'm guessing that if you cure the ranger, the forest father grants you a boon, with which you can cure the wizard on the buriel isle. Is this right? I think I've down everything else in the game.

This quest goes on for some time
1. Lonelywood: Talk to the brothers (trappers) and Emmerich -> go to the camp

2. Back in L-wood: Talk to the brothers and Emmerich (again) -> go to Burial Isle

3. Back in L-wood (again): Talk to the remaining brother then Emmerich and Kieran (the Innkeeper) then Emmerich (during the daytime) then Kieran and finally Emmerich for the last time. I can't remember how many times you need to back and forth between E. and K., but I think this is the way.

P.S. Don't forget to go back to L-wood after the final visit to the Camp (before moving on to the Sea of floating Ice) - there are two 'mini-quests' that can yield some nice items.

I know it and optional quest
I just like to get the most out of my games. If there's a puzzle that I can't solve, it really bugs me. Anyway, I've already completed HOW as part of the IWD, now I'm doing it *again* with the characters that completed IWD so that I can do all the side quests.

Hmmmm, I haven't found a hint of one in the rest of the game. Thought I'd ask on the off-chance.

Holding the werewolf with the arrows while my party made a run for the inn. Seemed to work, 'coz I managed to get my party from level 23 to 25, yes, two whole levels, from a couple of conversations...

Doesn't seem to be anything more on the wizard, though. But why would you be able to go back and ask him in deatil about it, if its just background?

hi will, this comes from http://planetbaldursgate.com/iwd/walkhow/burial2.shtml
and should solve the werewolf mystery. by the way, this website is a walkthrough for HOW so if you get stuck on other parts, read through it and it can usually stear you clear.

Once back in Lonelywood after finishing the Burial Isle, go speak to Doogal. You will find that Dolan has also been killed by the renegade wolf. Doogan thinks it was a magical wolf that killed his brother, and that Emmerich is behind it all. Then go speak to Emmerich. He wasn't at home the first time we went there, so we went to rest and then went back. Once you find him, he will mention that Doogal has approached Kieran Nye about purchasing a magical weapon, and will advise that you speak to him about it. Go speak to Kieran, who will mention the possibility that the wolf was a werewolf. Then return and speak to Emmerich. Tell him what Kieran said about the wolf, and discuss the possibility that the wolf who attacked him was a werewolf. Emmerich will speak of the nightmares he has been having, and you will eventually discover that he has been infected with lycanthropy by the wolf and will gain 420,000 XP for the discovery.

Once the discovery is made, you can either kill him or try to help him. If you kill him, you will gain 1,400 XP and the following items: Shadowed Cloak, 16 Confusion Arrows +3, 20 Inferno Arrows +2, 20 Arrows of Piercing, 100 gold, Bracers of Archery, Finest Long Sword, three Potions of Extra Healing, Long Bow +4 Hammer.

If you would like to help him, speak to Kieran again. Ask if he knows of any way to help Emmerich, and he will give you Selune's Caress. While the amulet will not cure lycanthropy, it will keep the effects at bay as long as it is worn. Return the amulet to Emmerich for 420,000 XP.

If you roam around Lonelywood at night before curing Emmerich, you may encounter a werewolf. If you would like to help Emmerich, I would advise against killing it. It will flee after it is sufficiently injured.

When I first got attacked by the werewolf, I went "oh dear god" as I'd had real trouble killing them in TOTSC. This one died in one rounds worth of missile fire, so didn't get the chance of running away. I solved this by using the entangle arrows from the dwarf in Gloomfrost, and *my* group running away. Anyway, that quest is done. I'm off to check that walkthrough for a cure for the mage on the buriel isle.
Cheers
Will
