Pray tell, friend Felix, why dost thou keep thy words to thyself, lo these many moons, and not bestow them more often upon the needy, the starving, and the ill-at-ease? Fair glimmering such as thou hast spoke are such nourishment as the fully fatted calf, or the extra-large salad, that may keep one satiated for days on end...

But, pray tell, wouldst thou offer the same fine words to one considering starting on this path devoid of both spark and flame, empty of fauna and flora essence? For 'tis truly this path that I contemplate, for a journey soon to be started.

Heh. I'm with Felix. After reading this thread, and before Felix posted, I decided to give the game a try with a solo character. I chose a Whiska wizard. Whiska for the combat abilities and not having to worry about light sources, and wizard because stone magic is a good thing. Also, went with female to leave Valkyrie open as a possibility. Haven't gotten far yet, I'm still too busy running away. Not going anywhere near the crypt for a while. If I can get through it with this character, I may try again later starting out with a warrior.

Have to have moon magic one way or another by the time I get to the dragonspire though. Because of some quirk with my graphics card I can't get through the underwater hole after you jump off the bridge just before Erasthmador's room. Without being able to teleport out, I'm stuck forever in that section of the cavern. Can't get back for the third crystal.

wellz.........playin wif 1 character is quite difficult, i dun tink I myself would ever try it!
if i had a go, i would choose a male human wizard coz of the long range spells. but on the other end, the lack of hit points will really kill me off fast....
next i would choose a male lizzord warrior coz he has good agility at dodging n has gd hit points. but without the long range spells, i could be a sitting duck against those spellcasters n walking mushrooms or even the mantraps.....
my last choice would be a female pixie priest. the lack of hit points is an ouchee 4 me but the healing spirit spells n offensive vine spells are quite useful. the dodge trait is really GOOD too!!!!
no comment on the rogue...............

My 1 charcter party is now beyond the dragon spire. Dug up the old game and left the spire, made her a samurai and did the Boogre caves to get some sun spells (flame drop, burning haze and firestorm especially). The walking spunges are now wrung out and left to dry and the Mavin is glinting in her hand... She´s now a ninja to gain some moon magic but the game is fairly easy by now! She´s a bit too powerful and can now kill anything on site . I don´t expect any problems from here on, except if I try to wipe out all vamps from the Skull castle of course...

I have embarked on my solo quest & funnily enough I am using a Whiska wizard. This is even before I saw what others have used.
So far I have been killed about 20 times but now I am on level 5 I can move around more freely. Using shock & burn until I run out of mana is working well. I also use a very special technique that was taught to me by someone called Monty it is called "run away run away". I use it whenever I run out of mana.
Tomorrow I think I will actually venture into the crypt, I have already cleared the path of skeletons.
I will be interested to here what you use Bungleau.

Beware the crypt. I ventured into it today with my Whiska wizard at level 6. After being killed four or five times, I managed to get back out. And that's was just poking around in the first section, before falling through the collapsed stairs. The crypt skeletons are a bit tougher than the graveyard skeletons, and banshees are just plain nasty when you've only got one character. You get paralyzed and you're toast. I kept running into larger groups than I had the mana to deal with, and running into more bad guys while fleeing. Although I might have better luck if I take the spawn rate off often, I'm too darned stubborn to do that.

And has anyone figured out a safe way to open chests at this point? I've just been leaving them to come back for later, when I've switched to a role that gets lockpicking.

well, u dun necassarily haf 2 change 2 a role with the lockpicks skill. try n get ur strength (which is unimportant to ur wizard rite now.....) as high as possible, and then try ur luck by bashing the chest. there's no garentee it'll work so it's a risk! lolz

Hmmm, where to start.

The early days of "Huma" (male, human fighter) started as a no mana having, big armed, strong young one. He was in hopes of acheiving Paldin status, and righting all wrongs, and destroying all evil in the Gael Serran. He failed miserably, then had a few friends join him along the way( 1 wizard, 1 preist). Made it to Cets Tomb, then I lost some major hardware components to a freakizoid attack.

With some knowledge of start game through Cets tomb, I kinda knew what, where, and when I needed to be what in the game. So, game start two came along.

Enter, Felix The Assassin
Male Whiska Wizard.
One must plan for the worst, and play accordingly. Run Away is a survival technique, Infantry use a "Retrograde" aspect. SPEC-OPS must use the cover and concealment of their immediate surrondings, and sneak away under the cover of darkness. Rule one: Never allow yourself to be in a situation you cannot control! Opps, I'm on the game board!
When one finds themselves in a situation where HP and Mana are under 60%, you need to plan a route to: a. The nearest fountain, b. the nearest towne. 60% will suffice you through your fight back. This may seem 'wimpish', but one who returns with life, mana, and new found exp will prevail. The one who doesn't, will be sent to the 'your party has been' "whatever" screen.

All of those blue/purple bottles that are left laying around should be stored into thy pack of holding, consumed when thou art suffering from wounds. The yellow ones (me tinks yellow) consumed when thou is very painfully sick. I will not lay out his life here, but once thou art blasting many foes with one snap of thy fingers, it is time to consider, str and hp, then healing and curing before thou undertakes thy temple of unholiness.

I have an Radeon GC, and have some problems in some areas, and understand that not all puters are created equal, and software IS the most challenging part.
As I'm currently deployed I cannot play, or call up specific data for some areas. To each his own. I was determined to play single critter from the onset, it took me awhile to figure it out. But once I did, it was similar to what Willow posted earlier, almost to big for my breeches.

Patience is a virture, one must live by it, or ultimately die by it!
May you have long hours of enjoyment and game play.
and Remember, run away when thou ist suffering, and save game when thou arst strong.
