Chromatic demon

I've just started to play ToB and am not using any imported characters. Let's just say that the less said about losing my hardrive and all my saved characters and games the fewer nightmares I'll have.

I'm in thw Watchers Keep and can't do anything with the chromatic demon. I've already killed all the keepers from the four rooms and opened both doors in the fire room. Spells don't work and it doesn't seem to matter if you use normal or magical weapons. I haven't found any book or notes that give clues on how to beat him. Since he changes form I'm sure that, that has something to do with it but I am stumped. Clues or outright help is appreciated.

Have you talked to him again? IIRC, when you talk to him, he notices that you have the 4 things from the Guardians. It will free him, then you fight. IIRC, though. [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Assuming that you have freed him...try taking a look at his form, and using the opposite form of damage (i.e., if he's ice, use fire, shambling moundish, use lightening, air, use acid, and fire, use cold)

I have done that to some extent, maybe not enough. It seems that I can never get him past barely hurt. I was wondering if spells could be healing him. Ie. does magic missle heal him because it isn't specific to the form he is in?

What party type do you have? Levels and classes?

mazzie lvl 20 fighter
Imoen lvl 17 mage/thief
Edwin lvl 17 mage
Viconia lvl 20 cleric
Valygar lvl 17 stalker

Waaaaait a sec...what level of difficulty are you playing on? IIRC if you play on insane this battle is much harder....

There are actually four notes that tell you what damages each of his forms. IIRC they are the same ones that tell you how to disable the guardians in each room. They are very subtle though, you'll have to read closely.

Well... you can always use the good old Harm tactic. Cast 3-4 Lower Resistances on the Chromatic Demon, then use Harm on it. Proceed to spit it to death.

I think only elemental damage works on him, at least that's what the scrolls say.
