Default Anyone know of a program/method to crate text macros?

Like you would do in an MMO, I simply want to have some way to bind lines of text possibly to a key on my keyboard, or even using a macro button on some program. Anyone done this before and can point the way?

Well...with some keyboards, it's a trivial act, actually...but they tend to be gamer-oriented keyboards like the Logitech G15, which includes the requisite software to do just such a task.

Unless you want to buy a snazzy new keyboard, I would suggest looking into Autohotkey, which should satisfy you.

Incidentally, the only reason I have a G15 is that one was mistakenly placed on clearance at Best Buy for $30...and a nice USB keyboard with backlight, an LCD, macro buttons, and a built-in USB hub is hard to resist.

Thanks, there is quite a bit to learn before creating it seems. Can you tell me whether this program allows me to use a GUI interface to execute macros via buttons rather than binding one to a key? This is what i'd really like.

Well...like I said, I don't use it, and haven't, as I have that G15 keyboard with it's six function keys and three separate function slots apiece.

Why exactly do you want a GUI? Clicking a button to type is much less efficient than using a keyboard shortcut, especially if you intend to use the macro within an application.

I need it for work, alot of generic email text and I am tired of writing it over and over. I woulda liked a little window that I could just click on and the text would be inserted is all. No worries, i'll read up on this when I get a chance and try get the program to do what I need.

Googled for "how to create keyboard macros"... came up with this:

http://www.autohotkey.com/

Free mouse and keyboard hotkey utility... may be just what you're looking for

Erm...you don't read the posts first, do ya, Bungleau...

lol

You may be best off just pasting your oft-repeated text in a text file, and going back each time, highlighting it, and copy-pasting it.

It would ease the strain of getting your IT department to allow you to install another program.

LOL! Guess I've got to plead at least somewhat guilty there, Ilander Think I'll pull the old "great minds think alike" excuse for not examining things more closely...

So... like you said...
