Unfortunately, LZ I can't elaborate too much but I recall one more concert:
#4 I was like 6 and Sharon, Lois and Bram came to town. Canadian kid entertainers. Anyway here I was in the nosebleeds with my mom, and they asked for some people from the audience. I was jumping up and down waving my hand, thinking they would pick me

#2 was in a small hall, I was near the back but was still only maybe 20 metres (60 feet?) away from him. My most vivid thought was dropping my jaw when I saw him start a drum solo where I stopped seeing his hands move they were so quick

#3 was at the opening CD party. It was in a smoke filled bar, and I thought I would get lung cancer. Unfortunately we had to leave halfway through because my dad, who quit smoking, was getting the urges again.

Well, being a drummer myself, and thinking that Neil Pert is fantabulous ... watching/listening to Rush was just pure poetry to me. It was the Presto tour in Philly that I saw.

But I have to say that I really liked Better n Ezra. I've seen them twice each in Atlanta and Philly. The venue was small, 1000 or so people, but the crowd was real enthused. That and there was no such thing as a bad seat. They played a 2 1/2 hr set each time and changed the show for each crowd (more than the obligatory "[city] rocks!"). A real energetic show. Six Pence opened for them once. That girl has a real pretty etheral like voice.

Blink182 has been great each time. I can even forgive Travis for ripping off Neil Perts drum solo, The Rythnm Method, cause it's just so awesome. They also put on an energetic show - very punk (purists may flame now ...).

Queensryche's Empire show had a very creepy moment. They had two huge monitor boards on each side of the stage. During a song "Eyes of a Stranger" there was a single eye in each screen (16-20 or so) and there always seemed to be a "pair" staring at you .....

Ok...

U2 & B.B.King - Lovetown Tour (Joshua Tree Rattle & Hum)

Venue was the Sydney Entertainment Centre - which is a very poor sounding room. We were in row X or something which is two from the back - if you jumped up you could have touched the roof of the venue!
As it was my first major band concert I had a great time though. B.B.King was fantastic, even if the crowd got kinda bored of him, and U2 were great although when I think about it now, I seem to recall watching the screens a lot...

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Good Son Tour

Venue - Enmore Theatre, Sydney. This place is always a favourite venue of mine - dark intimate theatre (maybe 1000 seats? less?) always a loud warm sound, and always a hot charged atmosphere.
On this night Cave was in fine form doing his 'hung-over, fallen preacher' thing. The Nick Cave worshipers intrigued me too. One of my favourite high school memories this was.

Guns 'N' Roses/Skid Row/Rose Tattoo - Use your Illusion Tour

Venue - Eastern Creek Raceway, Western Sydney (Outdoor)
By far and away this is the worst gig I have ever been too! It was hot, dusty, crowded (80,000), not enough toilets/food/alcohol, very low quality toilets/food/alcohol, fights, fires...you name it!
Then the bands! Rose Tattoo should never have made a comeback - fat, old and drug****ed (felt like I was watching Weekend At Bernie’s - The Musical!)
Skid Row - man, their 'singer' talked and whined about himself and his problems for 2/3 of their 'gig'. When they did play a song they sucked anyway. I recall them being booed a lot.
Guns 'n' Roses came on well over an hour late. They had a sign flashing the band name trying to get an unenthusiastic crowd to participate. They played 8 song and left. The sucked so much, I don't think Slash even knew where he was. I have disliked them from that day on.

Rollins Band - End of Silence Tour

Venue - Horden Pavilion Sydney - 3000 or 4000 capacity I think? Great sound if you have the right band and sound guys. It basically a large hall though.
The atmosphere here was intense - lots of angry young men with testosterone flowing freely. I went with my brother-in-law who was one of most extreme guys I knew back then.
Support band was Aussie legends The Hard Ons, who were fantastic, a perfect lead up to Rollins.
I remember we'd worked our way near to the middle front when Rollins came on with Low Self Opinion - the crowd just surged forward and I was almost up on the barricade in seconds. We were in the mosh from then on. Band played so well and I felt like I'd been through the wringer afterwards. Exhilarating.

Smashing Pumpkins – Siamese Dream Tour

Also at the Hordern.Packed, hot and electric. My friends and I managed to find a VIP balcony and stay there without getting removed. Awesome night and they had those great ‘druggy’ visuals going on.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Californication Tour

At the Sydney Ent Cent. So sound wasn’t the best but band played well. Anthony Keidis looked a little flat but the playing was everything I’d hoped for and more. The crowd was very mixed and very into it. Seeing the whole venue jumping up and down was spectacular. We were sitting in the second row, maybe 10 or 15 seats from the side of the stage – overlooking the dance floor. Very close. It was an experience.

Alanis Morrisette and Garbage – Supposed Former…/2.0 double header

Superdome, Homebush Bay, Sydney – Large indoor stadium in the vein of Ent Cent. But with newer facilities and better sound. Still the big gig vibe that I don’t prefer.
I went mainly to see Garbage – they were good but slightly clinical. Crowd responded well but they just didn’t nail it for me.
Alanis on the other hand blew me away! I’d never gotten into her music much but live she and her band were brilliant. Had an edgy moody incense velvet sort of vibe. Controlled mania? Absolutely worth going to this one. We were in a similar position to the Chilis so were able to avoid that watching the monitors feel.

Phew! There may be some more I’ve forgotten but I’ll finish off with

The Tea Party – Splendor Solis/Edges of Twilight/ Transmission Tours

Yes. Three times and they have been outstanding each time.
First was at the Phoenician Club in Sydney – a small legendary venue that also saw Nirvana play just before Nevermind went ballistic. Similar feel to the Enmore theatre but smaller. More intimate. I’d heard these guys’ debut at a party and was invited to their show the next night. No idea what to expect and I was amazed. The singer was really overdoing the rock wanker thing but if you ignored him and focused on the music it was insane.

Next saw them at the Uni of Wollongong - typical university main hall gig thing. This uni has one of the highest levels of drug taking in the country so you can imagine the atmosphere. It was a great night – sound was a bit better than decent, band had got even better and the singer was toning down the rock god poses.

Saw them again at my beloved Enmore Theatre for the Transmission tour. Such a suitable place for these guys. I had the best night here. They nailed every song and the antics had been almost completely dropped for just fine musical performance. These guys will do very little that’s exactly like the album – they keep it interesting and improvised and extend etc… The crowd was already on edge and tightly wound and as they finished a rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah tribute to Jeff Buckley who’d just passed away all hell broke loose. Possible the best gig I’ve been to because it had all the elements at their peak.

All in all I enjoy most concerts I go to. I also see a ton a local/big Aussie bands at pubs, clubs and the odd festival.

Kansas/Styx...an excellent concert.

And I saw Marilyn Manson in a little theater in Burlington, VT just before he got "big". A very odd experience for someone my age!

(February). I had front row, but had to continually fight to keep it.!
so incredibly jealous of you seeing Eric Johnson that must have rocked

Personally, I don't really enjoy paying $$$ to see bands from 9 light years away, in the middle of sweating, teeming masses of people. That's just my humble opinion.
Is this typical for America or Australia I wonder?
We do get concerts in halls here too, but most bands that aren't too big don't give concerts like that. I've never seen TVs/screens at a concert that I can remember.... no wait only once, at a MUSE gig last year. But they were there for artistic purposes mainly...
I've also heard that in the USA most people sit down at concerts... that's so weird!
Almost every gig I've been to, I could almost reach out and touch the band, venues weren't so huge either. And after comparing with an American friend earlier, I can say that tickets are usually cheaper here as well...

Anyway I cannot even begin to list all the concerts I've seen but I'll give it a try.

First one was Slayer and Machine Head in 1994, when I was fourteen years old. I went with my friend who was also 14, neither of our parents could believe they'd allowed it afterwards
This is one of those rare concerts that were in a big hall with lots of people and where there were seats around the main floor as well.
Second I saw lots of death metal bands and similar godawful noise : Death (pretty special that I have seen them, Chuck Schuldiner now sadly deceased) Gorefest, Grave, Unleashed, Hate-Squad...
Then My Dying Bride, Benediction, Madball, Sick Of It All, Venom (!!), Machine Head again, Pro-Pain, etc...
All this was when I was around 14-15.
Some local bands, all death metal or similar: Gutwrench, Bifrost, Consolation, Nembrionic, Nocturnal Silence, Evisceration, Pyaemia... must have seen most of these 10 times or over

Some more festivals: Ministry, Slayer again, Type-O-Negative, Life Of Agony, Fear Factory, Morbid Angel, Madball again, Gorefest again, Downset.

OK gonna try and list as much as I can remember now:

Slayer, Morbid Angel, Venom, Sick Of It All, Gorefest, Ancestral Sin, Machine Head, Mercyful Fate, Saxon, Cradle Of Filth, Immortal, Marduk, S.O.D., The Gathering, Biohazard, Fear Factory, Altar, Madball, Benediction, Hideous Sun Demons, My Dying Bride, After Forever, Samael, Type O Negative, MUSE, Rammstein, The Tea Party, Consolation, Nembrionic, Evisceration, Nocturnal Silence, Pyaemia, Cannibal Corpse, Dark Funeral, Ancient, Behemoth, Haggard, Tristania, Pro-Pain, Goddess Of Desire, Bifrost, Gutwrench, Lagwagon, No Fun At All, Moonspell, Therion, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Faith and the Muse, In the Nursery, Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, Kovenant, Kreator, Krisiun, Impaled Nazarene, Daeonia, Within Temptation, Orphanage, Korn, Death, Grave, Hate-Squad, Osdorp Posse, Rage, Theatre Of Tragedy, Trail Of Tears, Neuk, De Heideroosjes, Deicide, Suffocation, Marilyn Manson, T-Nailed, Coal Chamber, Enslaved, Mystic Circle, Exodus, God Dethroned, Hypocrisy, Iced Earth, Incubus, Laberinto, Limp Bizkit, Mayhem, Voi Vod, Nevermore, Pantera, Testament, Pitch Shifter, Shelter.....etc

Leonis, I've seen the Tea Party thrice as well now, and they're among the best bands I've ever seen play live! Locations were Paradiso and The Melkweg, both "rock temples" of Amsterdam. Especially Paradiso is a fabulous location: it's a former church with beautiful stained glass windows...
The Tea Party is one of my favourite bands on CD, but seeing them live adds even more to their brilliance. I can't believe three people can create such a full and complete sound!

Last year in December, I went to see Live. I wasn't expecting much, because, to tell you the truth, I don't like Live very much. But friends were going, so I went to.

I was pleasantly surprised. Their music sounds much better...er...live...than it does normally, and they really did put on a great show.

I also went to the Korn concert a few years back, which absolutely rocked.

The best live performance I have been present at was not a concert, but a gig. It was at a local nightclub, and the band was my fav Aussie act- The Superjesus. (If you haven't heard of them, please go listen to some of their stuff- they are really good.) The small club resulted in great acoustics and sound, and also allowed myself to get to the front without too much elbowing.

Next month, I'm going to M One, which should rock.
