Everyone is welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This a great chance to quit smoking with the support and co-operation of hundreds of thousands of other smokers!

At the least, abstaining for one day will allow smokers to discover just how important tobacco/nicotine is in their everyday life. I'd also encourage everyone who smokes to break out a calculator and figure out what you spend on cigs in a year... it will make you sick.

This is the first year I've actually participated since the early/mid 80's because I've just past my nicotine-clean six month anniversary. I used to spend over well over $100 dollars a month on cigarettes.

AGAIN, everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate!

Yup, sure can KDog. Take the time you started going without a light and take it for 24 hours . If not, then til tomorrow morning would work just as well.

Average amount I spend on smokes per week - $40
Weeks in Year - 52
Years Smoking - 17
Total Spent on Cigarettes - $35,360.00

(The above is calculated on todays average. I've probably actually spent around $20,000.00)

And I need an American Smoke-Out to tell me how dependant I am on smokes?

Okay, sure, I'll do it. Why not. I randomly smoke/don't smoke anyway, but I'll make a point to not do it today -- even though I am going out tonight.

Just for curiosity, how much do you guys pay for your smokes? When I quit I was paying $25 per carton of Marlboro Lights or $3 per pack when purchased at a convenience store. I've noticed the price of cartons has come down to about $21, but I'm not sure about the per pack price.

I think part of the reduction in price is a repeal of some state tax, which is ridiculous when you consider that in NC we already have one of the lowest tax rates on tobacco in the nation.

EDIT - I know packs were under a dollar when I first started buying them in 1984, but I can't remember exactly how much. I do seem to remember that my first carton, purchased in the mid to late 80's, was $7.99-8.99.

I pay $3.29 per pack and $29.95 per carton. That is pretty much the cheapest prices you can find around Chicago.
