nk does not at present have nuclear capability, probly just testing their long range missiles out...[/QUOTE]I may be wrong, seeing as I don't pay attention to these affairs but wasn't there controversy that North Korea did have the capabilities to build a nuke.

Hmm, i see that the launch took place just hours before the inauguration of the new ROK President.
Ironical - he was elected on "wave of anti-US sentiment" according to the BBC.

Quote:
Mr Roh was swept to election victory on a wave of anti-US protests, and has called for a review of the status of the 37,000 American troops in the country, although he has stressed that he is not anti-American.
Guess who he's gonna call if the s*** hits the fan??

Question Mark

Of the handful of things about which I could currently be worrying (were I to worry about anything, that is) North Korea is certainly not on that list. This is simply a case of grand-standing; a pathetic attempt to focus world attention on themselves. *yawn* Whatever.

I will give the North Koreans one kudo, though--they haven't imploded despite decades of being hard-line Stalinists. That is probably stubbornness, though....

More propaganda than stubbornness, I think. I wager that most NKoreans have no idea what the world outside of the DPRK is like.

Just a bit of fireworks to celebrate the inauguration(sp?) of the new SK president

It was a 'silk-worm' missile (range ca. 100 km.)

Silkworm... is an anti-ship missle. If it had been an ICBM then they would have the full attention of the USA and the News as well as all the anti-US folks in South Korea. SK is an ally of the USA and personally I think it would be stupid of them to remove the forces we have there at present. US troops man portions of the DMZ.

The UN?... They will say they "deplore the incident" and draft a really blistering, limp wristed, powerless resolution saying NO! NO! NO! Bad North Koreans! BAD!
It's what they do best.

North Korea...They are very hard line Stalinists and until the Polit-Bureau is starving they will not change. The people can starve. They are all just peasants you know. (Heavy Sarcasm there!!) It's all about total power over everyone in the state. Not whats good for the state or the people in it. They don't give a fiddlers damn about anything, but power.

What do you think the UN should do then?
