I know monk should use fist as his weapon but it doesn't seems to be the best way in IWD2. Monk doesn't get most of their bonus for unarmed that they should get at 3e (eg. flurry of blows, higher no. of attack). He can't use weapon finess and weapon focus for unarmed attack. Also a multiclassed monk loss his unarmed attack bonus (seems to be a bug). So I am now thinking about letting him use the bliniant(sp?) short sword +5 at battle square. Can anyone give me some suggestion about it?

first off, monks need damage amplifiers like beast claw, which really boost their damage, then u will need defensive amplifiers, and also if ur monk is an aasimer, tiefling etc. or anything with an ECL, no wonder he sux!

I was thinking my monk sucked big time the other day too. So I tried him out with a club +5 and also another super club with exra damage bonuses I had as well (since he is proficient in club). And the results weren't too special. Instead of 4 attacks, he got 3, and the damage wasn't as good, even with a +5 weapon. Yes his fists are only +2 (or 3?) at his level (15) but it seems monks just do best unarmed. I'm not that impressed with monks overall though. I think next time I'll take a paladin or another fighter instead.

Agreed, i finally thought of giving the "houndstooth" collar to my monk rather than my druid and the monk performs much better now! ANother happy monkey!!!!

Throw in defensive bracers (remember nowadays that the higher the number the better!) and it gets even better.

I still stick by high DEX is better than high WIS for monks though...

When I gave the hounds tooth collar to my monk it just lowered her attacks from 4 to 2 and the damage was actualy LESS under beast claw. Is there something Im not doing?

I think we are refering to monks before they become "superman". With 4 attack, i think you monk is already quite high lv.

Low lv monks need all the help they can get.

I know that a pure monk gets more attack with barefist. My problem is: my monk had 3 rogue class so his uab has messed with his bab. Now whether I use fist or weapon I use the normal bab table. So the only adventage for fist is its high dmg dice, but weapon can give attack bonus for more frequent hit.....so what should I do in this case?

character:
monk12/ rogue3
(unbuffed)
str:14
dex:20
con:11
int:10
wis:22
cha:1(yes it is a powergamer's monk......)

feats:
dogue
dirty fight
power attack
cleave(1)
imp. crit.
dash

once a monk loses its bonuses... take care of it the way you would a 67' Buick... Set it on fire... roll it down a hill...

Adding rogue levels is a very nice choice to boost a monk with sneak attack and using magic set.
BUT DON'T DO THAT IN IWD2 since the skill using magic set is not useful and the bab bug remains there. So what you can do is just to get the thouder clap to add one more attack number and keep playing with a sverely weakened monk or just export him hoping blackisle will provide you a new patch to fix that.
And not like some other games, str is important for a good monk, so a half-orc monk is also considerable.( You like powergame's monks, don't you?)
