Re: Anyone here had problems with Windows Vista?
i am a vista user, and i miss xp in a lot of ways.
Some vista problems i have encountered: 1) strange harddrive activity at random times tying up computer resources so much that it occasionally crashes the computer from it trying to do too much at once 2) more crashing during gameplay than with XP 3) insanely annoying security which is very hard to bypass (still cant figure out how to delete things that are installed in the program files area) other than that, its a good OS |

Re: Anyone here had problems with Windows Vista?
Well aside from the fact that my laptop takes about 5 minutes to fully boot up and I have yet to be able to actually print something from it, everything's good!

Vista and XP see them in the same way as one processor.

But how many PC's on the market do you find with a quad core cpu? At least the last time I looked around most of the off the shelf stuff was dual core if that. much of it still just a single processor. That was like 6 months ago though so it could be different by now.

Re: Anyone here had problems with Windows Vista?
i know quad core has been out for awhile now but prices have been expensive for it. now i believe they are going for mass production for it next year. I am not sure how it works if xp could fully utilize quad core in my opinion. thats why im asking the experts .

Re: Anyone here had problems with Windows Vista?
I have a Q6850 quad-core CPU and it was a pain to get a hold of last summer, but you can get them relatively easy. Try ebay.
When I first got it, I didn't have Vista, so I installed XP and it ran just fine. "One CPU" idk... XP reports it as 4 CPU's each with hyperthreading, so does Vista. When I run my programs (my game developing engine, all my Adobe apps, my 3dmax, etc) and they all report 4 cpu's as well (each at 3.0ghz). I am sure XP doesn't utilize the quad-core as well as Vista, but it does perform better than any single or duo-core cpu's i've used. I can boot Vista in about 30 seconds (including all my auto-run apps). I can encode a 6gb movie down to 700mb using Dr. Divx in about 20-40 minutes (my single core 3.4Ghz took 3 hours for the same process).

Re: Anyone here had problems with Windows Vista?
So the majority of the issues come from what, 2 main categories (1)most of them called out early in the OS's life, (2)Vista was put on systems that weren't powerful enough to use it effectively.
that's what I'm able to gather so far.
