These are all from BGI as far as I can tell. There were A LOT more NPCs than in BGII, but much less interaction with them.
Hope that answers your query OK.

All not included in BG2 were in BG.

I am pretty sure that Xan and Branwen were in the tutorial. You may be able to add them to your party with cheat codes. I'm not really sure on this, but it should theoretically work.

Jaheira, Minsc, Edwin, and Viconia are the only ones that carry over to join your party in BG2.

Others like Quayle, Feldorn, and Garrick put in a token appearance, but don't join the group.

I found it interesting that there were two different Imoen characters in the NPC files. One was a much lower level thief.

No.

<< Spoiler >>

Faldorn is the Druid in the Grove. She used to be an NPC in BG. She would join your group with the right dialogue. In BG2, she's gone a little psycho and you need to dispose of her.

Keldorn is the Paladin that Mordrick is referring to.

Ah Kivan and Coran
2 of the best NPC's in the BG-series

To bad Coran won't join in bg2
I really liked him

And Kivan
No ranger like him
To bad he's not in BG2
He was so much better than that sissy Minsc

Rikard: Ahhh, but Minsc has BOO!!!

But yes, thinking rationally, and taking a small, furry, squeaky, cuddly hamster out of the equation, I have to say that Kivan was miles better.
