I could live to be a hundred and still wouldn't understand you lot. So you're eigtheen years old, already engaged and now you're also being stationed abroad for over three years? And I really hope you told your fiancée about that last bit before you got engaged...
Oh well, different cultures, different habits, I suppose.

Either way, congratulations and good luck.

I remember i was VERY happy when i was going to Germany once. It was when i was going to buy a certain game that wouldn't be available in other European countries for months to come.

I figured "if the game isn't coming to Johnny, then Johnny will come to the game".

Welcome aboard Soldier. Pack your bags. The train over here won't stay in the station long. Find out where you are going first, then plan on either brining your family next year or the following year.

BMWs are 7-10K cheaper here, but the catch is you will pay 5K import fees that US Customs will charge you. So, you can only profit 3-5K on resale in the states, but you will also sign a Customs form that you agree not to sell for somwhere around 6 months after returning stateside.

The dollar is down, it will cost you about $1.17 for 1 euro, but you will get a couple hundred in COLA.

Remember what your drill taught you, and when that mean ol' PSG is dead off in your backside, our Nation is at war, and every link must be strong!

Only if you buy one on post, off post they are about that much more compared to the US.

Good thinking that man!

And Dizzy-it could be worse. You could be stationed in England.

Dude, how old are you ? The Euro has never really been weak, and has had a higher value then the US dollar for almost two years now. And the Deutschmark, well, there hasn't been a more stable currency in Europe over the past 40 or so years. The reason why a BMW is so cheap there, is because they make the friggin cars. But wait and see what happens at customs, when you try to take the car home with you.
Deathkiller must be same age as me. I was stationed in Schweinfurt and things were cheap so that one could buy a BMW or Mercedes. But yeah they do charge alot for shipping them back. Best to just sell it before coming back stateside.

BTW Dizzy ... make sure to go touring, not just Germany but also the neighboring countries such as Spain and Switzerland. Spain is just a party town IMO. What a sight Europe is. Take along a camera, a warm coat, and an umbrella wherever you go.

Just because Graf is only a training area and has no real German culture does not mean the rest of Germany is the same way. I feel for you being stationed there, but you have Vilseck just out the gate, they have the #2 of everything in Germany, PX, Commi, Power Zone. But again just a military spot on the map. Go forth and tour. Weiden is not far, out off of 15 is the old border trace, go visit Hohenberg castle, look into the former Czech, drink fresh mineral water from the well. And once you finally get away, stop at a BMW dealer, tell them what you want, to include US Specs, then come on back and we will talk. If that doesn't work head on out to Friedberg, go out the front gate, turn left, 1 block down turn left, 500m down on the right is the BMW dealer. Ask for Johnny, tell him what you want, then tell him you want a cost comparison to any place stateside. Then you will be enlightened in life, BMW, and Germany. Oh, don't forget to stop for a bite to eat, get a curry wurst and Pils if your in FB area. Down there in Bavaria, you already know schnitzel and Weissen are the choice.
