the door has a lvl 12 lock and i was wondering if i should just keep trying to pick it or do i find another way in?

No one has ever said for sure if the Lich's key you get from Adrianna opens that lock. However, if you have a Traps & Locks skill of at least 7 and a level 5 lockpick, you can make it in. You can purchase a high-level lockpick from the Thieves' guild.
It's just random treasure behind that door, so it's really not worth it. Sometimes you can get good stuff, though. -Sazerac |

Someone did finally check and the key from Adrianne is the key for the locked door in the Lich's study.

And as for random stuff, I am sure that most of it is random, but I have found the Wizard Robes +4 in there every time. It is nice to have because it is great for a warlock type and it can still be blessed.

I got the key from that stupid Vampire(was hoping to avoid fighting her and her minions, had to do it anyway), and it didn't work on that lock. So of course I started over and took the ring instead, not sure if maybe the key not working was a bug or something, but for some reason it just didn't work for me. Also, I was wondering, I received 1 Master Lockpick from Cet's Tomb, if I go back now you think that lockpick will work on that lock?
