I'm doing the ranger quest -Protector of umar... Miadryn has asked me to help her with humans tearing up her forest...said they were near old shadow altar. Where can I find these humans and complete this quest?

Go to the Temple Ruins( the same place you fought the Shadow Dragon), and search the center-south. The Lord of the men is searching for some sort of precious metal, go to the south-eastern corner and fight off some skeletons. The metal( necklace) is found in a tree-stump, give this necklace to the Lord and he will leave.

Alternatively... you could just exterminate all of them, but you run the risk of becoming a Fallen Ranger, aka, pathetic fighter.

Well, I guess they are by the Shadow altar in the Temple ruins then.
