You may not know it, but NZ is a country struggling to keep teachers, doctors, nurses, in fact, any sort of specialist at all. We mainly struggle to keep them because the government doesn't pay them enough.
Now, it has been announced that the govenment has refused to take action over the shortage of medical personnal. And they also have declined a requested 2% pay rise for teachers. The next thing really gets to me. The government has just announced a 5% pay rise for THEMSELVES (note: they already gave themselves a 7% pay rise last year) Already their salary average is $200,000 a year, while the average teachers salary is only $30,000 a year. This is absurd. Do politicans think of no one but themselves? Sorry for taking your time, I was just so annoyed at this I decided to come and post here. What do you think about it? |

Seeing as my mum is a teacher in christchurch she knows all about it
NZ politicians are supposedly some of the best in the world as per looking after the community. But as this shows that is a load of crap and like most politicians just want more money for less work. But at least NZ has a rasta in parliment |

Man, I'm sorry for dumping this stuff on you guys I'm just so pissed off. After all I am still being educated in an underfunded system. And it makes me mad to see hospitals overflowing, with sick and injured people in the corridors and waiting outside. And all this when the government SAT FOR ONLY 90 days in a year (half of those days, less than half the members were there). I mean, most of them only work for less than 50 days a year, get phenomanal salaries, free overseas trips around the world, and they STILL cannot help this country.
The problem is, there is no alternative. PS: I am too young to vote yet. |

Sounds alot like what,s happening here in Canada.Try to hang onto any specialist being paid Canadian dollars with the USA for a neighbor.
Makes it pretty tuff to compete.

I know exactly what you mean. Most politicians just wanna get as much cash as they can before their term in power is up. Rare is the politician who actually cares about the country. "Get rich then who cares if we're not reelected?" Meanwhile the really important people who determine the country's future (teachers/doctors/engineers) get paid crap unless they go private industry which is hardly an option for teachers and for doctors/engineers, it means that poor people can't afford their services. In some countries being a doctor in a state hospital is almost like charity work.
