It's a simple question. A baby could answer it... These are just the ones released in the US, by the way.

FF7 (PC). That was the only FF series that I bought.

Really, Paladin2000? Why was it the only one you bought?

Yes, it is true that I only bought FF7 because I heard a lot of good things about FF7 during my days in Yahoo Chat (I don't go there anymore). But I don't really like the user interface (because it was designed for consoles and not for PC) and also the random combats. I think Japanese console games have the tendency to have way too many random combat encounters which is really irritating.

Anyway, I managed to finish the game and decided that I am not going to get any more of the series (FF8, FF9...) because I am really sick of random combats and plus the controls are clearly not tailored for mouse/keyboard combo.

Oh, BTW... I don't own any consoles in case if you were wondering. For the moment, I think PC has the best RPG games.

I also bought FF7 (actually it was gift) for my PC, and I agree that it does not set up well for use on the PC. I also agree that random battles are a bit too prevalent in the FF series... However, if you ever do decide to play another console RPG, I'd recommend Chrono Chross or Chrono Trigger (PSX). There are not any random encounters in either game. In fact, I believe that it's possible to only fight "boss" monsters in Chrono Cross.

I really only have experience with console RPGs (with the lone exceptions of FF7 and BG2), so I might be missing out on some other quality RPGs.

When you were playing FF7 on the computer were the FMV's heaps blocky or did they look pretty good? I have it on the computer and have a Voodoo 2 graphic card and the FMV's are really $hit!

You are lucky, when FF7 first came out on PC, some of the FMV sequences either played upside down or even worse, on some hardware combinations caused the system to hang with no chance of progressing the game further. Various workarounds involving mad stuff like deleting codecs were eventually given as a solution, but for a while it was touch and go as to whether I was actually going to be able to finish the game.

I'm glad I did though, as for all it's linearity in the main plot, the sidequests like the Chocobo breeding/racing and the Combat Arena were sooooooo much fun Who knows, one day I might reinstall it and play it through again

I far as I can remember, the FMV sequences are captured and converted to MPEG format. Therefore, if it really sucks, I doubt that it was caused by your video card. In any case, back then I was playing FF7 on my old PC with a 4 MB Vodoo card.

IN order of preference. 7, 6, then 8. I just never got the feeling that I was progressing much in 8, since the bosses and monsters match your level so theres no real advantage to leveling up. And getting all the weapons is a matter of getting Odin and fighting marlboros etc till you get lucky.

6 was good, 16 bit, but good. Two airships, a mobile castle, a parallel dimension and a magic system fairly close to that in my favorite:

7. Materia system rocks, combat is good, FMV is excellent (8s is better, but who cares. Couple years real-time egraphics will be that good anyway)

It seems square have abandoned the PC though, which sucks because I refuse to buy a console. For thos worrying about gamepads, its not hard to solder a SNES or PSX gamepad to your PC, or even buy a proper PC gamepad.
