Gidday,

I picked up Wizard and Warriors for quite cheap here in New Zealand, didn’t really need another game to play – but I am glad I got it because it definitely has a classic old school RPG feel to it, can’t wait to get into it. Anyway after reading the manual/forum posts and playing a little a few questions have come up.

I did a small install, is their much difference between this and a full install ( I suppose a full install would give me faster loading times etc??)

Changing Professions/Roles – when you change to a new role you keep your old roles skills and can continue to use them and improve them?? If you changed to a new role at say level 5, you start your new role at level 1 and not at say the equivalent of level 6 for that character (as in Wizardry8)?? Once you change roles you can’t go back to the old role (so can’t change paladin to ninja and then back to paladin) ??

Can you change roles too much, I mean what makes a character more powerful – higher level or greater number of different skills/magic???

How are Bards?? – how is the path Warrior – Barbarian – Bard or is it better to go from Rogue - Bard
How are Ninjas – in Wiz8 they are best kept in the backlines for throwing criticals etc, are they good for close combat in Wiz and Warr’s??

Combat – can you arrange your party to have say the fighters on front lines and magic users in the back, or are all 6 characters considered to be all within the same reach by enemies.

Thanks heaps for any help with these questions
Cheers

welcome to the board Nutman! Let´s see about those questions.
1) I´m not sure that a full install will make the game noticeably faster. You get the music and the movies (not that many) copied to your drive. You´ll save a few secs when your CD is searching that´s all I think.
2) Yes you keep all your skills and magic when changing. And yes you start at level 1 in hte new class. There is one setback with this. You won´t gain any ability points until the level of your new class succeeds the level of your former. And no you can´t go back to an old class unless you reset the game (I think).
3) A level 10 warrior needs a huge amount of exp. points to get to lvl11. Let´s say you changed that warrior to a paladin. He would only need about a 1000 to level up. Changing classes is an easy way to get better characters fast! But don´t forget the magic. If you use a pries make sure to get all the vine spells you want before changing class or you won´t get them.
4) Bards are good in one way, moon magic. You need a high level of music skill to get it to work. I only use the to let my wizard get moon magic early in hte game.
5) As many of your characters ass possible should go through the barbarian class. You get huge amounts of hitpoints. And if you want the rogue skills from the beginning (recommended the first times around the game) start with the rogue and make him a barbarian. He/she´ll then be as good as or better than your warriors.
6) Ninjas are speedy fighters! They use two swords and throwing. I use 2 of them usually. Change them from barbarians and you´ve got invincible fighters.
7) And lastly it doesn´t really matter. Most monsters have pretty good ranged attacks that will effect all of your characters. On the other hand some monsters only affect the lead character.

Hope this helps a bit!

Thanks for the info and answers WillowIX, appreciate it.
Further clarification on class change in terms of spells, when you change roles you keep your old roles spells, but can not continue to learn new spells from your old roles spellbook (unless supported in new role). You mentioned using a bard to get moon magic early on in the game, couldn't you just go straight from a Wizard - Warlock to get the moon magic (let me know please if I am getting into spoiler territory here).

cheers

Welcome to the forum nutman, Wizards dont learn moon magic, they start off with sun & stone magic. If you have a wizard try to get him up in his stone magic because I think only wizards can learn it. It has the useful stone to flesh spell at level 5 or 6. The most important skills to develop early in the game are forge(blacksmith) in the fighters guild. Traps & locks from either barbarians or rogues in the rogues guild, & artifacts in the priests guild. Identifying items & repairing weapons are expensive but you only get a good price for items that are identified and repaired. Try to get all of your charactors registered in all of the guilds so that you can pay for many new skills.
This forum is a wealth of information, just ask any question & people will climb over each other to give you the answer. First read the best tips section but be careful of finding spoilers.
Good luck & have fun.

Yes Nutman you can get it from the warlock BUT the warlock can learn ALL schools of magic. I like to concentrate on one school at a time. For instance I get stone magic with my wizard, moon magic when bard, sun magic when samurai and fiend magic when a warlock. If you train your warlock in moon magic it will be a living h-ll (pardon the language) to get fiend magic since you´d then need a lvl 15+ warlock. The exp points needed for those levelling up are very tough! You´d walk around forever tryin to get fiend spells. You see the problem? The warlock is a mighty fine class to have at the end.

I agree with WillowIX, all of my charactors have been a warlock at some stage but it would have been much better to leave that until I had level 7 in most magic schools. Specialise early & use Warlock to pad out what you have missed.
It's nice to see a Kiwi on the forum.

Welcome to the board Nutman!!!

Always make sure your magic users get all the key high level spells, in their current school. Once you change roles...they can only learn spells at half their skill level, for the old schools. (At that point...you can learn some of the lower level spells to fill out their book.)

Other things to consider are the traits that are available to certain roles....Only a ranger can learn 'Fletchery'. There's a good post in the BEST TIPS thread...page 3..QUICK GUIDE TO ROLES.

Yes fletchery is a very important trait to learn as early as possible. It is an easy way to make gold. Just put your most expensive arrow in the quiver top slot & equip a bow & your ranger will reproduce it while you wait.
See "Newby Seeks Advice ^_^" posted by Charmy 19/07. She had a pretty good starting plan.

Welcome to the board, Nutman!!!

I see that you've had excellent advice! There is one way that you can change a character from one class back to a previous class - resetting the adventures. Basically this is starting the game over but your characters keep their skills, class and any non quest equipment but they "loose" their history of classes so the game no longer recognizes that your Ninja was once a Paladin and will let you make that change if you like. Resetting adventures is not a bad strategy for building up strong parties early in the game if you don't mind playing through the crypt and Valeia sections of the game more than once.

Gidday,

wicked, thanks for all the welcomes and very informative info. This is a very friendly and helpful board.
Does resetting adventures change the balance of gameplay much - I mean can it make you a bit too powerful??

cheers
