Anyway, Farnham is famous for a lot of extremely insignificant stuff really. King Charles stayed there the night before he had his head cut off, and Brian May lives in the nearby area somewhere. As for where I live now... I think Donut said it all. But with reference to the immediate area I recently found out that the Communist Manifesto was written nearby, and this particular road is the home of the famous Amnesty International Headquarters , the even more famous Sadlers Wells Theatre, and also the less famous (but no less deserving) Harputs Charcoal Grill Kebab Shop.

The area I live in now is famous for high crime-rates (especially car crime, there are currently 3 burned out cars within sight of my apartment) and a connection to the Krays who owned a cafe just up the road. Loads of the old folk here remember the Krays with starry-eyed nostaligia ("aaaah, but you see there was no crime here when the Krays were around"), and the funeral processions passed down the main road lined with crowds of adoring fans. And I know Mad Frankie Fraser's niece, she lives near me.
The NF got 75% of the vote here in the GLC elections a couple of decades back (they wouldn't now). Mmmmm... what else... The video for The Verve's 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' was filmed in my street (that's the dirge where he's walking down a long road pushing people out of the way). Jarvis Cocker from the 90's britpop band Pulp lives round the corner and drinks in my local - and yes he does dress like that when he's in the pub. Artists Damian Hirst (sheep in formaldehyde) Rachel Whiteread (concrete sculptures of the inside of houses) Tracy Emins (unmade bed) and Tim Noble & Sue Webster (sculptures made from piles of rubbish) are or were based here. They buried 15th century plague victims here when it was all fields - now under a road called 'Pitfield Street' which refers to the plague pits. Shakespeare's first Theatre was based here, in Curtain Road - The Globe. It wasn't called the Globe at that time though, and was later moved south of the river due to city laws concerning 'entertainments' (ie. Theatres, Prostitutes and Bear Pits). He also wrote a lot of his plays in a tavern nearby. Dr James Parkinson (Parkinson's disease named after him) lived here Edmund Halley (discoverer of Halley's Comet) was born here One of the main Roman Roads (Ermine Street) is now the A10 - Shoreditch High Street/Kingsland Road - runs right past my apartment The Eagle pub (from the rhyme 'Pop goes the Weasel') is just around the corner The Gainsborough Studios where Hitchcock's films were made was here - now knocked down and being turned into luxury apartments for yuppies

My town is complete crap.
The only claim to its fame might be a peanut butter factory and some highway vehicle factory that has been run down for over 40 years. That and the fact that everyone in town I swear is related to eachother one way or another. Boy am I glad I live 7 miles outside town!

Troy, MI (20 minutes North of Detroit)-
Once a farming community and pit stop for those heading north from Detroit. Now, home of a few company capitols: Kelly Services, K-Mart, Delphi automotive systems, BASF, Standard Federal Bank, etc., helps make our county the 2nd richest in the country (read it somewhere), and home of I-75's "Exit 69" (which takes you onto "Big Beaver" road), Somerset Mall (and as a result) gobs of snooty people who's offspring are equally rich, annoying, arrogant, and ignorant as their parents.
