This is where you get AVG antivirus, and this is the best firewall out there. These two are the best spy/ads/dialer/other junk protectors there are.

I have very little knowledge of this 'Sygate' firewall you mention. The spelling sets off a red flag already, 'Sygate=Spygate'. How does it compare to that other one, Zone Alarm?

It's better. Much. They were free up to recently, but then boomed onto the commercial market. That says about how effective it is. Just like AVG's story.
