Is it good to have a spellcaster (Bodyknock) as your henchman? Will he cast any good spells in combat or only bad ones?

I liked Boddyknock. He does cast some good spells, and I carried him for the last part of Chapter 1 and the first half of Chapter 2, but lately I've gone with the cleric. She is amazing against undead, and the cleric spells in NWN are very good, too.
The main problem with spellcasters is that they cast whether your facing something major or minor. They kind of treat them the same. In the thread here on henchmen, I give a link to a henchmen hack that addresses this and many other problems. It's not a cheat unless you use it to cheat, otherwise it just corrects some serious AI errors, and the fair thing about it is that it also fixed the enemy's AI.
