Another money-making method - not sure whether fixed in the patch:
The Assassin's Quest (kill Grue Morde) is buggy. After completing it, whenever you enter the Pawn Shop you will be rewarded 2500 XP and 2500 gold.

and no, it wasn't fixed in the patch (from what I've heard).

Hi everyone! I have found that a lot of graphic problems with the game is because of the graphic accelerator is to high for the game. If you are having these problems try turning down the accelerator. Here's how:
1. Go to control panel
2. Click on performance
3. Go to graphic tab located at bottom of screen
4. Move accelerator tab over to no acceleration
5. Click ok to accept
6. Restart computer even if it does not tell you to
7. Start game. Change to software mode.
8. Restart game and see if it helps.

I hope that this helps someone in the future.

Caveats: This table assumes MINIMAL guild memberships for each class. If you've "guild-hopped" (joined multiple guilds by signing up for roles and then cancelling), you'll obviously be able to ascend to more roles than these listed here...also, if you've changed roles more than once. For example, if a Warrior goes to Samurai, then goes to Paladin, the character is now a member of 4 guilds: Wizard, Warrior, Priest, and Bushi Dojo, and can ascend to any role offered by those (which I think encompasses all roles except the 3 elite ones).

Also: I did not list the 3 elite classes, since I assumed that once you ascend to those, you'd be daft to go back to a lower one...but just in case, here's what you can join:

Assassin: can join Warrior, Thief, and Bushi Dojo guilds.
Valkyrie: can join Warrior and Priest guilds.
Zenmaster: can join Wizard, Warrior, Priest, and Bushi Dojo guilds.

Apply the appropriate ascensions based on guild level.

DIRECTX 8 PROBLEMS -

(this tip grabbed from Saz's great thread - kudos to him!)

I just found this last night, guys. You no longer have to reformat your drive to get DirectX 8.0 off your system! This site has a utility called DirectX Buster that will unload ANY version of DirectX, even 8.0, without going through a system reformat!
http://www.directxbuster.de/index_e.html

The most stable build of the product is DirectX Buster 1.33 build 103.

You'll first need to download a copy of DirectX 7 (or whatever version you wish to return to). You can do this here. When you've downloaded the package, then run DirectX Buster and remove DirectX 8 from your system. Reboot, then reinstall DirectX 7. You're ready to go!

Hope this helps solve a LOT of frustration. Here's one in the eye for Microsuck!

Cheers,
Sazerac

This tip is a workaround the common "unable to retrieve the serpent idol" in the Serpent temple problem.

The serpent idol later allows you to retrieve the book of the servant, which is required when you summon the spirit of Xydusa.

Since you can't retrieve the Serpent Idol, you can't retrieve the book of the serpent and thus, you can't complete the Serpent temple (and the game).

So, here's the content of the book of the servant:

1- When the Serpent charms... the servant bows
2- When the Serpent schemes... the servant dreams
OR
When the Serpent dreams... the servant schemes (sorry, I'm not sure which is which... you'll figure it out when asked)
3- When the serpent sleeps... the servant waits
4- When the Serpent strikes... the servant prays

With this information, you should be able to complete the Serpent Temple... and save Wyvern from editing your game

FINAL NOTE: If you have the lyrics (above) you DO NOT need to retrieve the Serpent Figurine. Don't worry about it, kill the slime, back out of the water and finish the Temple

SAILING YOUR SHIP - in the Enchanted Sea

Do NOT sail close to the shore in the lowest southwestern area - where you will find Tarik - this is the only place where your ship can actually become stuck.
There are ways to get it unstuck, but best to just avoid the problem.

STUCK SHIP -

If you did sail your ship too close to shore near Tarik and have run hopelessly aground:

Climb on board (click on your ship) and cast VANISH - this is not always a safe solution.

Swim further out into the sea and cast CREATE PORTAL, swim back to your ship, get on board (click on it) and cast TELEPORT. This is the safe method!

COLLASIUM - getting in to

If you have found an entrance not far from Tarik's treasure chests and cannot seem to get the inner door to open - you're at the BACK DOOR and need to exit and look for another entrance. Swim around and look for a big temple. At the lower front corner there is a passageway leading down - there you will be able to enter the city!

Here's a tip to get rid of the toad that won't allow you to go back to Shimwiki on your second time through the village. Sorry, you'll have to kill them. (if you're a good character, think of it as keeping a very important trade route open ) But you have to kill them in ONE strike.

Best option:
Cast meteor on them. As this is a powerful spell, the Toads will die on impact... and you can have some nice frog legs for dinner.

Good luck.
