A bit of fun on a saturday evening....
I knew that, at least to an extent, monsters would follow you either as you retreated or, like the walking veggieburgers, track you down. Until now I had never experienced this.... In my new set of chars, thanks to Rumphys revenge on my HD, I decided to convert my level 5 fighters to Paladins to get the Gallantry Skill so that I'd be able to dump a Lot of points into it before changing to something else. So, into the guild I went, started the quest, started walking towards Nymph Lake and ran into a Giant Tree Spider. Fired off a lightning from a wizard before deciding I wanted to do the quest instead of getting the xp I ran back to town, went in the gate then out the other side so i could run around and take the northwest route to the river then back down to the lake then onto the statue.... got distracted by rl for 2mins, heard i was being attacked - it was the spider that had been hit by my lightning bolt, that had run round the city perimeter to come get me! Then it gets better(!!) - I re-entered the city, exited on the west side, held the shift key and high-tailed it down the path, via the windmill and dove into the water. I got within site of Harespias' house and around the corner comes.... a G.T.S. Not just any old spider but the SAME ONE, i.e. depleted hit points from a lightning attack. If spiders are coming after me like this, and I only have level 5 single-class chars I think the veggies are gonna be trying to 0wn me. |

Oh, yeah... that's a lot of fun. 'Most any monster, once engaged, will follow you until one or the other of you are dead. Missy had that happen with a pack of Worgurs near the start of her adventures... little buggers chased her from gate to gate, and she couldn't hit much of anything, weapons-wise.
There are also some creatures that will hunt you down, even if you've never encountered them. Juba Thobers and Mon the Sculz, in the Valeia area, will do this. And in the Ishad N'ha area, those salads will head after you once you've reached a certain area. I don't know exactly where, but... ...They WILL hunt you down (R)... Yup, I remember the walking artichokes.
First time i ran into them i was soooo dead. Heard a tinkling sound followed by the screams of my party.... tried running away but they followed me and that was the end of them. Haven't gotten that far yet - just about to redo Serpent Temple having done all the guild quests, getting the signet ring etc. Serpent Temple won't take long as i've got that down, then out to the marshes. Yep... the salads will find you on the way to Shurugeon Ruins. They spawn someplace on the map (I think Willow's identified where), and when you pass some certain point, they start tracking you. I almost always find them after the encounter with the rattkin thieves, but once I didn't go that way, and they caught up to me near Torin
Let's just say that while I wasn't prepared, I still prevailed... Worst place I've ever fought them was outside the gates of Ishad N'ha. I ran, they followed... and I couldn't run any more Fire bombs and flame drop work wonders on them

In fact all monsters that have not randomly spawned (not just quest monsters)will follow you. That includes, of course, the more prominent ones such as the mantraps and the tarantas in the dragon spires and the special ones with their own names (such as Scorthidon). But also ignoble ones such as the pack of worgurs just outside Valeia and the spider in the basement of the windmill (if one actually bothers to teleport it outside so that it CAN follow one). (There's a gap between 2 sets of trees that you can see their outline... just point, click and get ready to munch some bbq veggies) |

You're absolutely right, eddie-c. Meteorstorm (and the rest of the *storm spells) work wonders on salads. But if you're a low-level party who doesn't have those yet (like the Den of Thieves), you may be amazed at how effective Flame Drop is. Since it burns for a long time, it keeps taking away hit points and their opportunity to attack! Fire Bomb does the same thing.
If you've got the storm, let it fly. If not, let it burn...

I've not tried taking low levels out there.
(Too much of a wuss - and never did like cold food) rofl. I just wish there was a way to speed-up/fast-forward through the text for quests in guilds. (And hopefully for WW2 Mr. Bradley will give the gm's/storekeeps voices) |
