Our dog Molly (pure black Cocker Spaniel) mostly lies around all day sleeping - well she IS almost 12 years old. But she still has the time to bring me my slippers and when I give her a biscuit and ask her to lie down, she does. And when I ask if she wants it, she nods her head, though it looks more like she is telling me to "Knock it off and give me the biscuit already!".

She used to chase the chipmunks near the bird feeder, but now she barely notices them.

She still barks at me if I corner her under the table, which is lots of fun.

She sometimes limps because of arthritis in one of her back legs, but she still jumps up onto the couch (only if her blanket is there to protect the fabric).

She sometimes runs in her sleep.

She wears, each time, a Superdog cape my wife made her for Halloween (I designed the 'S').

I worry about the day she will no longer be with us. I remember when my wife first bought her. I told her I would not get attached to that dog, now I cannot imagine life without her.

For most of her life we could not get a good photograph her and a few years ago, somehow, we took the perfect picture. It's nice that we will have a reminder of the best dog we ever had.

I'm thankful for her and the joy she continues to bring us everyday!

O! it's a good thing you have a nice picture of her!! I still regret it that i didn't take a picture of our cat panther!

*sob* now he's no longer with us i realise what a special sort he was! He was always friendly , and when you called his name he came running (right away) to you! and if i was sad he always tried to comfort me.. I miss him very much

What a lovely post, Mark! Our little poodle is 11 as well, so I can definitely relate to a boisterous bouncy puppy getting slower and sedater as they get older. I think it just gives you a whole new side of them to love though [img]smile.gif[/img] . It's funny how attached you can get to a little creature - I remember when I first wanted a dog and my brother hated dogs and said no way! - he just loves her and I don't even like to imagine how we'll all be when she's gone.

And I can relate about getting a good picture of a black dog too!

Bubbles (well she used to be black; now she's silver) isn't all that photogenic though we have albums full of pictures of her - I think the best photo we have of her is with one of her legs completely shaved of wool when she'd had an operation to repair her AC joint in her knee! (then she had the other one done - she hasn't been the healthiest little thing lol

).

After reading posts on the CE board this thread has made me all warm and snuggly inside [img]smile.gif[/img]

mark it is a lovely post. shortly will be the 5th anniversary of the death of my cat. i had him for 17 years. i miss him so. i will cry if i sit and thinka bout him too long.

soon i will be taking my older cat to get a problem fixed. i hope to have 5 more years with him, but i beleive that is optimistic at best. pets are such a treasure.

Seraphina is about ten. I got her from the pound so I'm not sure exactly how old she is. She was a youngster though. Strangers always ask me what kind of doggie she is and I have to tell them, she's a Wonder dog. She is too. Right now she's sacked out across the bed and gently snoring, but she needs a nap after helping me this morning. I was planting some daffodil bulbs (way late, I know) but I would shovel out a little hole with my hand shovel, and then Sera would dig in the hole a little, then I'd shovel out the dirt, and she'd dig some more, then we'd plant the bulb. [img]smile.gif[/img] No I'm not making this up. Seraphina often nods yes and no to questions and understands just about everything said to her. She never has grasped the concept of catch or fetch though. I tried to teach her when she was little, but no dice. I'd toss a tennis ball gently to her and she'd dodge it and give me a, "why are you throwing stuff at me?" look.

When I would throw a ball and try to get her to chase it she would look at me like, "why did you throw it away if you still wanted it?"

Serry don't play that.

Jack is 4 years old next month. He's a Jack Russell. I couldn't see the sense in giving him any other name when he came with a perfectly good one in the first place. When we first had him he was this tiny ball of fluff. He is actually a Jack Russell/Silky Terrier cross. So he has quite long hair with tortoise shell colouring if you know what I mean. He's not much good for anything I;m afraid. He always seems to be able to get himself into mischief. I spent the entire year last year trying to find all the spots he was managing to escape out of in the backyard. I think I've sorted it all now, but who knows?

As much as he's in trouble all the time, we all love him to death. He has this way of looking at you that simply cracks you up. He's even managed to melt the icy cold heart of the mother-in-law! No mean feat, I can tell you! I'm still trying, and I've been married 15 years now!!

I love the name Seraphina, injaYew! LOL, Bubbles isn't too good at fetch either - she's got the collecting portion down really well, it's the bringing it back part that has her stumped. She never cottoned on that fetch would go on for a lot longer if only she'd let us have the ball again!

Unfortunately she can't play anymore because of her tendency to injure herself doing stupid things

. She actually dug a hole the other day! She hadn't dug one for years, and we just looked at her nose with the dirt on the end with a 'you're ELEVEN Bubbles!!' but she didn't get it [img]graemlins/bighug.gif[/img]

I don't have a dog, but have a cat, whose been very faithful to me the past two days since I have been feeling ill (had a wisdom tooth pulled out and have had a very hard time with some complications). She's sat right next to me the entire time, only leaving to eat and use the litter box, was nice waking up throughout the night on the couch in pain and having her there making sure I took my meds.
