I killed "The Unseeing Eye" without the wand. I am about to go to the surface with the wand still intact, but I was wondering if there was any truth to what the apparition said about the gods getting angry about me taking the wand to the surface. Has anyone taken the wand to the surface, and if so did anything happen to you?

When you exit the area where the cult compound is (and enter the normal sewers) you see some text about the curse, then you drop dead and there's nothing you can do about it. Game over.

LoL That's pretty funny. I don't use the wand... I just kill the beholder.

There's nothing really wrong with using the wand in combat against what is potentially the ultimate beholder (chuckles to self) makes the battle shorter anyways. One wand charge and a few arrows later I had his corpulent mass quivering on the ground in front of me.

Of course there's nothing wrong with using the wand against the beholder.. After all, the text on the item even reads, "Amaunator's fading avatar has allowed you to use it with the expressed purpose of destroying the Unseeing Eye." What's wrong is just ditching it there and letting those poor Diseased Ones sit around for an eternity. Ilmater help me if I didn't feel a bit sorry for them. Of course, as an evil party I just smacked them around and left.. Honestly, they were more depressing than Xan himself!
