A request for the Hardware Wizards...

A pleasant suprise awaited me upon returning from a four week backpacking trip... my neighbour and father 'upgraded'(not much left of the old one) my old Pentium III 800 with a Geforce 2 GTS to a brandnew Athlon 1800 mhz with 512 MB Ram and a Geforce FX 5200 with 128 MB (Its an Asus). My question to you guys: how good is this computer? I tried NWN in High Res, and it ran. But not as well as one might hope. So I tried Morrowind.. which also ran slower then it should have, considering the card I am using. Can anyone tell me how good my new platform really is? Am I stretching it too far or is the procesor speed or card holding me back?

make sure youve formatted + reinstalled any os your using after such a Major upgrade. then defragment.

i would suggest you should check the temp on your chip, and becuse it should be quite cold (its a thouoroughbred) overclock.

best way for your graphics not to bottleneck on your proceccer

like he said.. (i am assuming that your parents have not replaced the hard drive of your computer) just putting your old hard drive in a new system wont help one bit. you have redo everything so that your computer would run better

I checked my hardware info, and its in fact a 1.15 GHZ procesor. *smacks head into the wall* This may be what is causing the trouble. There is a new harddrive in it, btw.
Another problem: the computer keeps resetting while I'm working with the NWN Aurora toolset, what could cause this?

I think the Athlon 1800's are supposed to be running at around 1400 mhz or something. Maybe the processor isn't configured properly in the BIOS. I'll bet your FSB is set to 100x2 rather than 133x2 where it is supposed to be.

Are you running the default drivers for your video card? Have you got the new Dets that came out yesterday?

Have you reinstalled Windows since the update?

What DirectX version are you running?

AMD 1800 = 1.15 Nay. Check your BIOS. Should run somewhere @ 1.5 Ghz.
Your problem, sit down and wipe your nose. Your vid-card flat out fell flat on it's arse when it was released, and Nvidia being the folks they are, well, allowed all that advertisement money to bring in herds of folks to but it before the test results were publicized. Get a real vid card and be happy!

Your 1800 is actually supposed to run at 1.53ghz

If you go into your bios and are able to enter the "CPU PNP Setup Page" set the "Ratio" to 11.5 and the "CPU Frequency" to 133.
