Yes pick the assasin, he can coat his weapon with poison. The poison can really disrupt the casting of spells of a spellcaster.

An assassin may have a X7 backstab modifier, but he sucks in combat. I have an assassin with one skill point invested in long swords and single weapon style, but it takes turns for him to land even a hit on the enemy! The backstab...awww...what's the use of backstabbing if you can't even land a hit?He just kept on missing and eventually he became visible to the enemies...

what the holyavevger said is quite true.
You'll have to use all your str enhancing items on him or have a wizard cast strength on him. If you DO manage to hit however thge result is outstanding

The other thing I don't care for about the assasin is the major hit he takes to all other thieving skills. Unless you plan on having another thief in your party to pick locks and disarm traps etcetera, you may want to chose a different one. I decided to go with the Bounty Hunter and have had good results, finally dualing him to mage.

Assasins sucks at low levels (almost every class does),but overall Assasins are quite good. I imported my lvl 24 assasin and he can really kick arse without the help of my party memebers . Just have patience and you can make an assasin really powerful.

I am soloing an Assassin right now, and while he's no fighter, I still think he's a pretty good pick. Don't expect a whole lot out of him at low level's though. I would give him a bow (either Tansheron's bow, which doesn't need arrows; or the bow that you get off of the beastmaster in the Copper Coronet (3 shots per round)). Then have him use arrows of piercing (easily stolen) to up his thaco. Just using an assassin as an archer during battles will help immensly (sp?). His poison will disrupt any mage and even does a number on fighters.
As far as allocating skill points, there are a number of items that will make up for any deficiency's. ie. gloves of pickpocketing, Studded leather of shadows (or something), Boots of stealth, etc. Hide in Shadows - 90 or so points Move Silently - none, get the Cloak of Non-Detection Set traps - 100, traps are the no-defense weapon Pickpocket - see above Find Traps - depends on whether or not you have a cleric to cast "Find Traps". I now now where most are, so I didn't put much into it. Your call. Detect Illusion - You won't need if you have a mage that can cast True Sight. Although I have heard other people swear by it. Pick Locks - Again depends on whether or not you want your mage to waste a slot casting "Knock". I put about 90 into it. Again, these are just starting stats. eventually you will have enough to go around. It just depends on your playing style. |

Just a note to those who do not know.
Your Thief's chance to Stealth depends on the average value of his/her Hide in Shadows and Move Silently. Try to get a total of 200 points from both of them, so that your average is 100. A total of 250 is your safest bet, since you incur penalties from daylight and nearby torches/other light sources. Nighttime and shadows naturally give bonuses. |
